I feel this pressure to run out an book everything before my date is gone. Does this actually happen?

It hasn't happened to me yet (knock on wood). Although I did inquire with someone about makeup and they informed me they had someone coming in and would advise if they booked them. I didn't go in for an appointment until they let me know, and they ended up getting booked, so I didn't get a chance to really want them, which I appreciated.
But so far, so good. What happened? Did you like someone to find out that they were unavailable?

I liked vendors who were booked, but then I realized that there are SO many vendors out there that it works out. I don't feel like I settled with anyone. I loved them all.

I havent come across it yet, but I feel a lot of pressure to go out and book, because I am afraid nothing will be available...I am just wondering how often it happens...or if I am worrying for nothing.

Yes, the band we really wanted was booked, but we are very happy with the band we found.

I think it also really depends on your date. For me it was off season so I didn't have that problem.
If it helps my SIL is getting married the same weekend as you but this year. and by the time she booked the hall I think she only had about 10 months to go She hasn't had a problem with vendors she wanted being booked so far.

also it depends on the vendor.. some vendors dont really get booked up... most florists do more then 1 wedding a day, most DJ companies can do more then 1 wedding per day, same goes for limo companies and some photographers.

My main concern was getting my hall and my photographer. If someone else is booked for my date I'm going to try and think of it that it wasn't meant to be and there are plenty of other vendors out there. I'm sure there will be another that I will love, I just need to look some more.

Thanks so much. I am planning from out of state and I feel a little behind and like I have no time...Everytime I come home all I do is wedding stuff and I never get to visit with people or relax and enjoy LI.

Yes, I STILL have no hair person because none were available and the ones that were the very high priced ones that also wanted to charge me an extra fee for traveling and because I would be the only one having their hair done. Seems that I will be going to a salon the day of to get it done.

Just one (Full House - band) but we were able to find an awesome band so it worked out OK!
I def. felt pressure to book reception hall, photo and band right away, but the rest of the vendors I'm not super nervous about. Don't get too stressed, alot of great vendors exist (LIW and non-LIW vendors!)

I had trouble with hair and makeup people being booked waaay in advance. But last month when I had to find a new videographer, there were tons available. There are plenty of excellent vendors out there, and I resigned myself to the fact that if my first choice wasn't free, then it wasn't the right choice for *me* (or just not meant to be) and went about finding another one.

Knock on wood - No.
It has a lot to do with my date, since it's off season.
I did run into a venue being booked for my date - the Carriage house. But that was based on a phone call - we didn't really get a chance to like the place since we didn't visit it.

See Im worried, because I think Labor Day Weekend might be popular. Well, all I really am concerned with / have left is the photographer. It is so important to me that I have been waiting till I am in NY a long weekend so I can see a bunch of them. I have a list of 30 that I called and managed to narrow it down to 5 to go see.
On average how many vendors for each service do you visit before you get the right one?

Oh yes! I really wanted Denise Venti to do my hair. I called her 10 months before the wedding and she was already booked. I was sooo disappointed.

Limo's - I only went to 1 dh went to 3 DJ's - 4 Florist - 5 Photograhper - approx 10
