We saw:

band - 1
photographer - 6
florist - 4
videographer - 8
recep. site - 7
hair & makeup - 2

But I think I started out with a list of like 30 for each!!!

Same here but found another awesome makeup artist!

We're still doing a lot of planning, but we've been lucky so far with how many vendors we've seen::

Hall:: 5, but we knew the 3rd one was the one, we just went on the last two to make sure.

Photographers:: 3, booked the last one we saw.

Dress:: Went to 3 salons, found mine at teh last one I went to.

DJs:: Still haven't booked, but I saw 1 already, have 3 other appointments scheduled.

See Im worried, because I think Labor Day Weekend might be popular. Well, all I really am concerned with / have left is the photographer. It is so important to me that I have been waiting till I am in NY a long weekend so I can see a bunch of them. I have a list of 30 that I called and managed to narrow it down to 5 to go see.

On average how many vendors for each service do you visit before you get the right one?

I had this problem too, b/c I got married on Columbus Day weekend & I was booking most vendors in March.

I wanted to meet with Duet, but they were already booked. I emt with Prerceptions & then by the time I called back ( a few days leter) they were booked.
I like who we ended up with though.
Photography was really stressing me out though.

The only other problem I had was booking roms at hotels, but something that wasn't available, opened up later on.

I don't think I visisted more than 2 or 3 of any vendor. I did as much online & phoen research as possible before hand, since I wasn't local.

Yes

Three bands were booked for our date and we started looking pretty early! I think some vendors just get booked quickly (bands, photographers, makeup/hair) while others not so quickly (video, florists).

Don't drive yourself crazy about it though. There's always going to be another vendor that's just as good out there for you. It all works out - we found a band we love and the fact that those other three were booked isn't a big deal at all.

I live out of state too, so I totally know how you are feeling. I did a ton of work before coming back to LI to narrow down our choices. Also, I had a lot of difficulty with vendors (especially some photographers) not willing to give us prices before we met with them, so they were immediately crossed off the list. If they weren't willing to be forthcoming to an OOT bride that doesn't have much time, then they weren't worth my time.

In the end we saw 5 halls, 2 photographers, 2 florists and 2 DJ's. And we really knew before we went into the whole thing who we'd end up picking just from our research. We really just saw the other people to make us feel like our decision was 100% correct.

Thanks! I have been doing the same thing..phone calls phone calls phone calls...

If I have to say one more time 'Hi my name is ... and I am having a wedding on LI bla bla bla' 30 photgraphers 36 halls and 20 something DJs its crazy!

I had the same criteria... a few halls wouldnt give me prices over the phone so I never even called them again.

Anyway enough complaining from me...Thanks everyone for your help.
