I have never actaully had cake with fondant - some of the things they can do with it are really cool - but how does it taste?

well, it doesn't..... it's just sugar.... BUT you can make it have a bit of flavor by adhering it to the cake with flavored buttercream.... this is what we did, and our cake tasted great (pic in my review)

We had fondant on our wedding cake and it was good. Tasted just like marshmallows! I think it depends on who makes it though..so make sure you get to taste your bakers fondant before committing to anything

yeah, i had always heard it tasted bad because there WAS no sugar in it! sounds like i was talkin' to the wrong people!!

You're not really supposed to eat the fondant. Underneath the fondant is a layer of whipped cream icing or butter cream. You are supposed to peel off the fondant before eating the cake.

Fondant is just sugar really...some bakers add flavoring (commonly marshmallow) to mellow out the sugary taste of it and make it more palatable.
Cakes covered in fondant are always given a crumb coat underneath of either whipped cream or buttercream icing to give the fondant something to stick to. Most people peel off the fondant when they eat cake.

Most times I've been served fondant on cake it was removed before it was brought to the table.

I didn't think you werre supposed to eat it. I have always picked it off the cake and eaten around it. Its gross.

you can eat it but i personally dont like it. although the few times ive been served it they have not removed it from the cake. in my opinion its much prettier looking than tasting.

Good to know, thank for the info. I may end up sticking with buttercream - or askingthe waitstaff to remove it before it's served.
