Has anyone tried to make these? UPDATED WITH PIX ON PAGE 2
Original post by GoingNutty
I found these on the Knot a while back and LOVE them for the rehearsal dinner! I want to try to make them myself, I actually have the perfect shaped and size pan, I am just a little nervous about working with the fondant. I don't know if there are any special tools or anything that I will need... I am planning to go buy the stuff to make at least one to try over my vacation in the next week but I was just curious if anyone else had done this or something similar.... Thanks!
ETA: I think AC Moore actually has a kit for the groom cake but I didn't see anything for the bride... they look simple enough... we'll see!

I think those are actually chocolate covered strawberries. I'm not even goin to attempt those!!
The cake came out cute, except I can't figure out how to make the fondant stick to itself... I also don't love the way it tastes... I will post pix tomorrow, I haven't decided if it's worth doing for the rehearsal dinner yet!

If you need anyone to clear up any mistakes so you can practice again....um we will take them off your hands!
What a brave lady. I'm lucky if I can do peanut butter and jelly and if you want a hot meal, I'll put it on toast!

I can't wait to see the pics! FYI though: chocolate covered strawberries are actually REALLY easy to make -- even I can do it (see my profile pic and you'll understand ). You could opt not to do the bowtie and necklace and just do them in regular choc and white choc. It'd be cute.

Re: Has anyone tried to make these? UPDATED WITH PIX ON BOTTOM
Okay, I didn't want to buy too much fondant cuz it's not cheap so I just bought all white to see how it was to work with. I couldn't figure out how to make it stick itself so I made the bride, took all the 'additional' pieces off and tried to make the groom. I did them from memory so they don't look exactly like the originials... It was VERY easy to work with the fondant, except like I said, I couldn't figure out how to make it stick to itself. I haven't decided yet if I am going to make them for the rehearsal dinner or not... Obviously if I do I woudl use the right color fonant! Just wanted to share!!

I love them!!! You make it look easy.... found these online if you could use them...
Fondant Tips 1. Fondant should be used at room temperature.
2. For a flawless final appearance, be sure that your surface, rolling pin, and hands are clean and lint-free. Tie back long hair, trim long nails, avoid wearing fuzzy clothing, and remove any jewelry on your hands and wrists.
3. When storing fondant, make sure the plastic bag and tub is tightly sealed to prevent it from drying out. Store the tub at cool room temperature; do not refrigerate. It will last for several days.
4. For best results, spread a thin layer of icing over the cake before applying the fondant; this 'crumb coat' will create a tacky surface to which the fondant can stick.
5. Once the fondant has been rolled, quickly transfer it to the cake; the time between rolling it out and covering the cake should be no more than 5 minutes. The iced cake will keep at room temperature for several days. If the cake’s filling requires refrigeration, avoid a long chilling time or the fondant can become dewy.
6. If you are making a multi-tiered cake, cover each tier with fondant before stacking them on top of one another. For best results, stack just before serving.
7. To conceal rough edges between the fondant-covered cake layers, and for a more professional appearance, create a decorative border around the cake’s edges and between the tiers. Roll a small piece of fondant into a thin snake as long as the cake’s circumference. Wrap the snake around the cake’s edge, gently press into cake, and crimp as desired.

They came out fantastic!! Wow, wanna come over and teach me!?
Im pretty sure you can make fondant stick to each other by just using a little water...it will make a glue for the fondant to stick.

The fondant tastes like dough. The boxed stuff is not very tasty!! That's why I'm unsure about making them...

I don't know if I could do it with regular frosting. It would be near impossible to get the same smooth lines. I think I'm going to see if a bakery will sell me the fondant, it should taste better than the boxed stuff!!
