Has this ever happened to anyone???

Has this ever happened to anyone???

A week ago my FH and I went to meet with a florist (who shall remain nameless). We discussed what we wanted and he gave us a price. He must have been able to read the shock on our faces when he said how much all of the flowers would cost – because he immediately asked us what was wrong. FH told him that that was more than what we were budgeting for flowers. He then asked what our budget was, we told him. And he said he could do the flowers for that much. He didn’t give us a written estimate, but we didn’t think much of it. We left happy.

Today my FH got a letter from them in the mail detailing what we wanted, but for $500+ more than we agreed to. They acknowledged in the letter that the price was more than what we said we wanted to spend, but they needed that to do what we wanted.

I’d like to think that we are ace negotiators – but somehow I don’t think that is the case. I just cannot help but to think that this is just a scam to get more money out of us. Has this happened to anyone? With florists or any other vendors?

Thank you for your help. Normally I wouldn’t care so much, but being that my wedding is at the Royalton I only have one other florist option.

I had one florist do something like that. He was in the middle of writting up the quote asked what my budget was I told him I did not want to go above 3K and I would really like to stay under it. He goes ok we can do it for 3K. If I said 5K would that have been my price!!! Needless to say we did not go with this florist. Probably the same one too!

Haven't met with florists yet-but if I were you I would go with someone else.

You should do a search & see what brides have used your florist & maybe send them FM & see if this has happened to anyone else. I am getting married at the Royalton as well. Congrats!

Call the florist immediately and tell him that this is more than you agreed to and you want them to honor the contract. Otherwise, you're walking. If they take their business seriously, they'll honor your agreement. They cannot unilaterally changed the terms of the contract -- You need to let them know immediately that this is not what you are agreeing to. Silence will be seen as assent to their price.

Definitely SPEAK UP!

Same thing happened to us, and I know this florist is known for doing that to get people to book. Needless to say we also did not go with him.

knock on wood we haven't run into that yet, i would first call them and talk to the same guy you met with and tell them that the only reason you agreed was because that was the budget amount and if they can't do it you have some one else in mind.....that's just not right.

Re: Has this ever happened to anyone???

We have no choice for a florist since they are exclusive with our RH. However, when we initially went in to meet with them (they have a few locations), they asked us our budget and we gave them X, they came back with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ more than we expected and FH and I almost passed out on the floor.
I was like, 'DID HE LISTEN TO WHAT OUR NEEDS/BUDGET WAS OR NO?!'
I was extremely upset and freaked out on the guy because he obviously didn't listen to anything we had to say. He kept telling us, but you need this and you need that. We kept telling him, NO we don't and this is our final # and that's it.
Well after all was said and done, we left very unhappy and spoke with our RH about the way the florist spoke to us. We wound up going to another location instead of the first one we went to and met with a nicer woman who was able to listen to our needs and our budget.
I thought it was quite unfair to the fact that we had no choice in the matter because this florist was exclusive. They should be able to accommodate all types of budgets since we had no choice.

I definitely think you should tell your RH this as well, since they insist on you using only one of two florists.

Thanks everyone for your great advice. It definitely made me feel better. :)

We are going to meet with the other florist, hopefully they will be better and we will go from there!

Regardless of who you choose, you should definitely inform your RH of your problem... if they are recommending florists (and insisting you use one of their recommendations), they should know of any problems their brides have.
