We keep getting calls from chimney sweepers, tree sprayers, landscapers, etc. saying that they used to service our house for the previous owners. At first DH and I thought it was cool (we have no clue) but since we've gotten so many calls for the same things, we've figured out that these companies are lying and that they must have gotten our name from some list. Be careful!

Ohh yes!!
The best was the chimmey/fireplace sweeper. She said that they had cleaned the fireplace there for many years...the previous owners had a contract with them. Hmmmm... I said...well then they must have taken the fireplace with them when they left because we do not have one here now!!!

be very careful....most of the places I am sure are legit...but there are some crooks out there...
my dad was in his backyard once and some guy came into the backyard...(my dad is not a nice man) - and he questioned WTF are you doing? the guy said his wife (meaning my mom) called to sweep the chimney...(they have a mock chimney...but no fireplace)
I don't think that guy knew he could run so fast...

I actually liked getting all the coupons and free stuff in the mail.. There were coupons for Waldbaum's/dry cleaning/free flowers/oil change and such which was very useful

I hate the phone calls. Then I would tell these people they we are not interested and they immediately would ask to speak to the man of the house (urgh - just the term). I said we said no and do you think talking to him would change our response and hang up on them. Some actually would start yelling at me when I said that! Thank goodness they stopped after a few months.
Most of the advertising stuff I get in the mail goes straight in the trash..but those calls are rude sometimes.
LisaRose - I think that same chimmney guy called me....I don't have a fireplace either!

I hated those phone calls. We got them when we moved into the last house (DH forgot to put the new # is as unlisted). They were all liars (we became friendly with the previous homeowners and they never used any of the people who called us). They are really rude too.
Don't worry, it stopped after a couple of months.
Since we went to the new house, and had the # unlisted, no calls

OMG if This one Chimney Company doesn't stop calling I'm gonna go Ballastic on them. I'm also on the do not call list! I don't know how they got my #.

We got some calls like that too .. and at the time we wondered .. if they used to do the work on the house .. how did the get the current number for us??? The previous home owner never got our phone number, and we never listed our number .. so that was weird.
