Just curious; My Grandson has a little step-sister, he's never met. Sometimes, I wonder, if and when, she's old enough, will she want to find him, and have a relationship? My Dad had quite a few step-siblings, but we never differentiated between them; All the same Aunts and Uncles to me! Mary MOB

This never happened to me, but it happened to my FFIL. He was in his 20s or 30s and was applying for a government job. They ran a background check on him and then questioned him about the results. They asked him about his 'brother' Jimmy. As far as FFIL knew, 'Jimmy' was his cousin - his mother's sister's son. Turns out Jimmy was really FFIL's mother's illegitimate son that her sister agreed to raise as her own. This makes Jimmy my FFIL's half brother. What a way to find out!

Oh, dear!! I have a similar situation in my family, in which a cousin raised her Sister's Son as her own, and now as a grown man, he STILL doesn't know who his real Mom is! Mary MOB

i know of someone who was raped, became pregnant. She couldnt handle raising the baby so the sister took the baby and raised it as her own.

Now this person is now in her 50s and still does not know that her 'aunt' is really her mother and that her 'mother' is really her aunt and that her 'siblings' are her cousins.

No but just yesterday a PI contacted me because someone in 1966 lied and used my mom's name on documents. I feel bad for the person trying to find their birth mother.

This happened to my best friend. she found out she was adopted whenshe was young and when we were in college she met her birth father and found out she had two half sisters.
Now ten years later she is very close with her sisters and birth father...
Was weird for a while but she made it work...
