Have to decide...would appreciate opinions:)

My sisters (MOH) 30th birthday is the day after our wedding. She has done SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for my wedding and has also been helping my brother with his wedding (6-21-03).

I was talking to my mom and dad and we've decided we want to have a surprise BBQ (in my backyard) for her. The question is I would like to have it at the beginning of August (8-2) so I don't feel the pressure too close to the wedding and my dad thinks that is too far away from her real bday. The problem is that we have a family party on the 9th so the only open weekend is either 1 or 2 weeks before the wedding. I think I will go NUTS!!!

We plan to have a cake at the wedding and dinner the day after (on her bday).

I feel a little bad saying -we can't do it closer to her bday b/c of the wedding- but I also don't want to kill myself and I think I may need my free weekends closer to the wedding......what do you think?

PS......FH thinks I'm nuts either way

I don't know if this helps you or not, but as you know, this past weekend was the second to last weekend before my wedding and I didn't do a darn thing for it... !

If your too uncomforable with that, what about after you come back from your honeymoon? Ya thinks that's too far away?

Scott's 30th is the weekend after our wedding. I already told him he's only getting a small 'word or mouth...don't bring anything' party. Between my shower, mine and his bachelor/bachelorette parties and the wedding people must be so sick of us by now!

Thanks Kelly... So maybe I can do it two weeks before. I feel the same about everyone being sick of our family. We have: my shower was 6-8, my borthers wedding is in New Hampshire 6-21, my wedding 8-29 and now sisters party also in August.

I just want to do something nice for her b/c she has done som much for all of us. I thought about after the wedding but I think that's too far (and it will be hard b/c I'll be gone for two weeks)

I guess it all depends... i would personally give her the party 2 weeks before the wedding.. at that point what needs to be done usually is... I threw my Best Friend a bridal shower the week before my wedding- it can be done.

I think that you should do it closer to her birthday. One day is not going to kill you on a weekend. Don't want her to feel like Molly Ringwald in that movie where the family forgets about her birthday b/c of her sister's wedding.

I know that things get crazy before the wedding but if everyone is making time for you, especially your sister, it would be selfish (sorry if mean) if you didn't make her b-day special.

August 2 is too far away.

Thank you all so much for your opinions!! I agree, I don't want to be selfish SO THE 12TH IT IS!!!! (OK a little selfish..I will have it 2 weeks before rather than the week before)
