Have u ever used airmiles to upgrade and if so

Have u ever used airmiles to upgrade and if so

how difficult was it? I want to try to use my miles to upgrade to first class. Has anyone done this? TIA

we have, and it was so awesome!! We usually don't find out until the day before or something like that, but we are put on a standby list to upgrade, and if they have the space, then FH uses either upgrade points or miles. He travels to Asia a lot on business so he racks them up quickly!

Sometimes you don't even need your miles (not that I have ever done this ) you can hit on the guy behind the check in counter. If that fails, then use your miles. Last time I was in first class, thanksgiving, Peter Jennings was right in front of me and we watched a Matt Damon movie, lol. The food in first class is awesome, the spacious seating is awesome. But, it depends on how long the flight is if I waste my miles. I am wasting my miles to go to a college roomies wedding b/c I felt obligated to go and I don't want to pay..shhh, she does not know!
Standby to upgrade is the best way to go..but to guarantee it you have to sacrfice the miles
