Have you and FI decided on when (ideally) you want to have kids?

Original post by Jan60504

Just curious... I know that most people do or definitely should talk about IF they're going to have kids, but for those of you who have answered yes to this question, have you talked about when? FI and I certainly have, but, although we've come to a compromise about it, we did disagree about when would be ideal. FI would like them immediately, I want to wait a few years (cause of career, etc.)... Any one want to share their feelings about the kids question? Who's pushing for kids more (read: sooner) - you or FI

Well I wanted kids right away, but my sister had a baby Feb.16 and she lives at home so I'm around her and my little niece all the time, its A LOT OF WORK !!! So I decided to wait, at least a year or two! but who knows....

we've pretty much decided to start trying by the end of the year. He's pushing more than I am, but I'm excited about it as well.

We thought about a honeymoon baby but we really want to get a house before we start trying. Our lease is up in December so as long as we find a house before then, we will start trying by the end of this year.

FH wants kids right away but I would like to wait a year or two after we get married before we have our first.

Hmm - this is a tough one. He already has a daughter not from marriage but from when he was 20. He loves her greatly but has and still is suffering from her mother This is a hardship for both of us. This has changed his view on having more kids b/c he once admitted to me that he never once another hardship like this (meaning if I left him and started acting like her). So while he would rather not have any more- he knows I do and often jokes aobut one and I say 2.
That will be my compromise because I would love 4!
So we will definitley have kids but a time decision has not been made or discussed!
Some times I feel I should accidently forget to take my pill. but I am not that crazy so I will nto do that. (at least not until AFTER the wedding!)

We both decided that we are not going to try right away and just enjoy being married. We said that we would start to talk about it 2 years after we are married (next year). So it will be at least another 3 years before we consider it

We need to get a house first once we get back from our HM. Once that is done then it's pretty much when it happens, it happens!!!

It all depends if I get a job. I will student teach a year after we are married. If I am lucky enough to get a job right away (but it will be Dec) then we will have to wait. If not, we will try then.........age is catching up though, I'll be 34 1/2 by then

Ideally, I'll get pregnant the summer before our 2nd anniversary.

We are definitely not ready and will wait at least 3 or 4 years.
We really want to travel alot and have time together (alone)
We both love children and definitely want them....but we still have alot of living to do before we travel down that road....

we want to wait until our second anniversary. i was pushing harder, but then a few days around little ones and you realize what a sacrifice it is. i've waited 30 years to get married, we want to enjoy that before we bring little ones into the picture.

We both decided around our one year anniversary we have been living together for about 5 years, so we have had our 'alone time'

This is the trillion dollar question - I never thought $ would make the decision, but it is.

We will have children when we can afford them, which means when we can afford for me to stay home from work for the first three years of their lives.

Since we rely on 2 salaries, I really don't know if we will ever be able to afford children. Unless we move far away.
