She said my bridesmaids will happily wear whatever I want because it will make me happy, but it would be the exception to the rule if they ever found an occasion to wear the dress again (unless I picked a little black dress).
Have you ever reworn a bridesmaid dress? Alter a long gown to tea length, wear to a black tie event, halloween (ha!)?
When choosing your bridesmaid dresses, was re-wearability a consideration? To what extent?

I have never worn one of the 7 i had again. Yet all of the brides were like you could totally wear it again.
I didn't even try to lie to my bridesmaids when we bought the dresses that they could wear them again. I just tried to find the cheapest one so it wouldn't hurt to donate later.

i've been in 3 weddings... and i've only worn one of them again. if it's a weird color or style, it can be hard to re-use. my SIL though had us wear brown adn when i can lose the 10 pounds i need to, i will definitely wear that one again. the other horrendous purple one with a train went directly to a charity for under privleged kids to find dresses for their proms.

Just one of them. It was navy, and there were only 2 of us in the wedding party--the bride just told us to wear a navy dress. Soo, I picked a dress that looked really nice on me that I could wear again and I did.
To quote the above poster: 'I didn't even try to lie to my bridesmaids when we bought the dresses that they could wear them again.' I at least let them choose what STYLE they liked the best in the 'hideous' color I chose (to clarify, I loved the color, but clearly it's a 'bridal' kind of color). So I wasn't a total meany.

Not yet- but my BM said she wants to do teh same BM dresses as me for her wedding, so Im going to borrow one from one of my BMs rather than buy my own- at her request of course. :)
And I may borrow one from one of my Bms for my honeymoon cus they are super cute!
eta- I was determined to choose dresses for my BMs that they can wear again- I didn't want them spending a lot on something they don't like or can only wear once.

My sister chopped the one we both bought for our cousin's wedding and wore it on her honeymoon and also to a friend's wedding. I wore the dress I wore to my sister's wedding (I was MOH) to another cousin's wedding last year. I wanted to wear one that I wore for a friend's wedding but it didn't fit anymore
So yes, I have. I try to when I can. Some are just not the right style. I am only having my sister in my wedding, so we are choosing a gown that is not necessarily a BM dress (just going to the mall and will pick something we like) - I think it's just going to have spaghetti straps and fall to the floor, no going out at the waist, or anything strange ... so she will be able to wear hers again. I think that if you can find something that is wearable again, great. If you can't, I don't think your girls will mind. I never thought of wearing a BM dress again until AFTER the wedding.

The last few I've been in have been horrible!!! That's why I stressed out so much making sure my BM's had pretty dresses!

not yet....but i'm not sure I ever would.... the color is a lavendar and the only good thing is that it was seperates...so unless I pair it up with a nice black skirt or pants I dunno.... one thought I did have was to make the top cause it's so pretty with the detail into a throw pillow

I tried my best to pick the most affordable dresses and have them be able to re-wear them if they choose. The dresses are navy which is a very easy to wear color and looks great on all of my girls, none of the dresses cost more than $120, and I let them all pick a style that they were comfortable in. They are all very happy with the dresses and at least 1 is already planning on re-wearing hers to a wedding early next year! That said every time I have been a bridesmaid the dress had to go afterwards which is why I wanted to make sure my girls were happy with theirs.

I had two different BM dresses that were full length gowns and were very classic looking. I wore them to two different black tie affairs.

Noooo......I've been in two. The first was a style that I could never ever ever wear ever again. The second was a two piece, long skirt and strapless top. I could probably do something with that one but I'm too lazy to bring it to a tailor. Maybe I could think aobut it when i get my wedding dress fitted
I'm hoping to find dresses for my BM's that they'll be able to wear again.
