Re: Have you ever said no when someone asked you to be in there bp??

I did. It was the hardest thing I ever did

I was best friends with this girl since Freshman year of high school, we had a falling out - didn't speak for a year and then started to again about 8 months before her wedding. She asked me to be in the bridal party about a month after we began talking and I told her that I just didn't think it was right that we didn't speak for so long and then I jump into her bridal party. I offered to do a reading instead - we were both very hurt at the time and I think the stress of being in her bridal party and the stress of her being the bride would have ruined our very fraile relationship.

We're still great friends now (this was about 3 years ago) so I guess I did the right thing. But I did feel awful!

Re: Have you ever said no when someone asked you to be in there bp??

No, but I wanted to.

My good friend from college was getting married. I didn't really get along with his future wife. If she had asked me, I might have said no. But he called and asked me to be a bridesmaid, so I said yes.

No, I have never said no but now that I know better... I would probably think about it very carefully before I said yes to anyone.

ETA: I also had one of my BMs initially say no and then take it back and say yes!

I have never said no but someone did say no to me and it was the hardest thing to have to accept.

I turned someone down. They asked me in a birthday card. I know the person for over 20 yrs. I had 3 weeks to give her an answer. The dress and color of the dress was picked out. I thought that I deserved at least a phone call.

Re: Have you ever said no when someone asked you to be in there bp??

I asked a friend whom I had had a falling out with to be in my bridal party knowing she may feel obligated to ask me to be in the wedding she was having only 6 months from my asking her so when she accepted and asked me I declined feeling that it was more obligatory then anything else, she was offended and took back her acceptance to mine...it was a mess

Re: Have you ever said no when someone asked you to be in there bp??

I said no twice...and both times wound up being in the bridal party. My friend asked me to be her maid of honor, i wanted to, but money was tight so i had to say no..her mom called and begged me to do it...so i said yes. I love her to death but its putting a strain on our friendship, i shoulda stuck with my gut cause now about 1000 dollars later im struggling to be in her wedding and trying to plan my own. The other person i said no to was one of my sisters...sounds horrible doesnt it?? lol We get a long but when we fight we fight! And shes so picky and i just didnt want her to dictate what kind of jewelry I would wear (im not crazy about those brides who think that they can tell u to do whatever they want you to do just cause you are in their bridal party) and money was another issue (our weddings are about 8 months apart!) But I eventually decided to ask her to be in my wedding party so i told her I would be in hers (out of 4 sisters, shes the only one i picked, wanted a small wedding party of 3). But honestly my other sisters are happy i didnt ask them, cause they would have felt obligated to spend all that money on mine and my sisters wedding. My mom told me once that people get offended if you dont ask them, but when they are asked and cant or dont want to do it they feel bad about saying so. I think if you cant or dont want to..just tell them..it will save you a lot of stress, grief, and money!!

Re: Have you ever said no when someone asked you to be in there bp??

Since i'm the first of my friends to get married, I've only been in one BP, my sister's! I don't think I would say no, unless it was a person I really hated and I didn't know why they were asking me. LOL

I'm glad I wasn't asked to more, I don't have to feel obligated to have people...but then that might be EASIER than this! I still don't have my BM picked. We have 5 groomsmen, all asked, all picked out, but the bridesmaids? If I pick one form my group in HS, I feel like I have to pick them all, and I'm not close with most of them anymore. AUGH! The guys were easy. My best friends are guys.
