Have you ever visited a vendor and wanted to walk out

Original post by Iluvpoodles

After just walking in the place? Like you knew just right away you wouldn't be booking with them. We've visited many photographers and the last one we met with we just knew it was the place. It was the only place we both agreed upon. So, me always thinking there's going to be something bigger or better out there, decided to look at 2 more places. One I ended up canceling and the other I want to last night. I used to lived a few blocks away which is how I knew about it. The place was locked when we showed up so we call and the owner lets us in, disappears telling us the representive will be in shortly and she's really busy so she can't show us anything. This is after I called to confirm the appt and my name wasn't even written in lol. So we start looking at books and I feel like the pictures are from 1975..so outdated and really cheesy poses. I was gonna say to FH lets just leave but I felt bad. So the rep comes in, looking like she came from the gym, shows us the albums, doesn't explain anything. Shows us a proof book, which I hated also, gave us a price list then took us back to the 'studio' where she recommended we take pictures. There were imitation pillars and backdrops. Now during this whole presentation, I don't think I said anything. As soon as she brought us back up front, we left. Such a waste a time. This place has beein in business for close to 20 years too. I guess this goes to show everyone has different tastes..

I love hearing these stories, I had so many of the same experiences! I always wished that I could like 'review' vendors or fill out some type of survey to let them know why we booked elsewhere. You would think they would be interested. . .

We've only looked at RHs thus far, and yes...we had a BM at a hall make a strange crack about Hinduism (um, we said we would have a MUSLIM ceremony following a legal one...Hinudism is DIFFERENT, jackass) I just sat there like OH NO HE DIN'T!

At another place, the BM rushed us through and criticized us for wanting a vegetarian affair...even though this particular place is KNOWN for doing that. She said 'well, at least offer a fish' and we were like 'we're vegetarians because of compassionate reasons...that would completely go against our beliefs'

And finally, the third place...they didn't have an appointment for us (though I made an appointment and they followed up with a reminder call), they were totally scatterbrained, it was overall a huge waste of time.

I've actually walked out at a bridal showcase. The vendors did not really have much to say or tell us so we just left. No one was allowed to tell us prices and they wouldn't even show us albums. It was a waste, but it wasn't too far from where we lived so we just went to get dinner instead.

ugh... you girls have DEF have some experiences.

Luckily all the vendors i met with have been nothing but nice. Although there were a few places we went into where we knew it wasn't for us but like others, let them go through their whole thing. I felt bad just leaving.

Don't feel bad!! I had walked out of MULTIPLE florist and Photogs!! Some of which are popular on here.. I just didn't 'feel' right about them!

I walked out of one RH because 1. they planned the tour during someone else's wedding and told us to wait for the BM in the middle of this poor brides' pictures! (We were not going to do that to her) 2. It was right on the street and all we could hear was honking and 3. It smelled like death!

OMG yes! It was a photographer. I wont say their name, not that they are popular here anyway but me and FH walked in...I am okay with certain vendors who work out of their house, we have 2 and they were very professional and we never thought twice about meeting at their house but this photog asked us to take off our shoes and right away it was like, 'if you are running a business, you need to put your personal habits on hold..(jmo)', then they were inquiring a lot about what other vendors quoted us, etc. and that was a turn off to me. Then they had like very little experience and omg, we wanted to run after we knew in the first 5 minutes that we were not going with them! What a waste of time!

YEAH!!! A popular company on this site. The guy wasn't friendly, was cursing while selling me the product. I was soo disappointed cuz I heard such good things from them on this site.

I had this feeling the SECOND we walked into some RHs... There were two in particular that if the people weren't standing there talking to us I would have walked out on. Some places smelled weird and this may sound odd but I have a thing with carpet... if the carpet was old or worn looking I immediately ruled it out.

I don't know if it was the same one, but after we said we wanted to get married in July because Fh and I are both teachers, he responded after everything 'oh, but you can't afford that--you're both teachers'

Obnoxious!

I bet we TOTALLY had the same guy. I loved the hall, but didn't book because of this.

Me: Hey, listen, how much would it be for a Saturday night in October?

Him: I'm not even going to tell you because you can't afford it.

He didn't even KNOW what we did for a living!

I've had a DJ answer his cellphone MID-SENTENCE while talking to me

AND I've had a florist tell me that 2010 was too far away, and I shouldn't even be looking at flowers (this was July of 2008) you can bet your as$ when it came time to look for flowers I didn't even consider them!

Yes!!!!!!

We saw on RH and was totally like 'not for us' the min we walked in the door, but we stuck it out and hated every minute of it.

We saw one photographer where we both walked out and shook our heads 'no' in total agreement.

In both instances I didn't even ask any questions to hurry the process along.

We went to a showcase that had a live performance and walked out on that, b/c we didn't like them at all, but that wasn't an intimate setting so they will never know.

I also canceled an appointment with a different DJ based on how his staff acted at a showcase.. They didn't know we had an appointment all ready but we decided to get some info early and they were so unprofessional... I told the manager why I canceled my appointment and wrote a long (but nice) email stating why, and I did get the most heart-felt response back.. but, We still didn't even look at them!!!

Went to Chateau Briand - first time it was okay- very nice place, went to a wedding there. The second time, the BM was very rude. Told me that Children do not belong at weddings, did not serve us drinks on either occassions (which I thought was an oversight the first time) and even MOVED the drinks in his office from previous visitors and didn't ask us if we wanted anything, told us that HIS reputation was on the line when we asked if we could have entire room if we had more people so no cuz the room will not be full looking.
I wanted to walk out.

It was one of the two places we were narrowing down to. He definitely made it easy for us.

Re: Have you ever visited a vendor and wanted to walk out

YES - when we went to one photographer studio (a very popular one who I'm sure many brides on here have booked), we just had weird goosebumps and were actually grossed out to the point that I wanted to shower when I got home. The albums had a lot of risque and burlesque photos in them. The owner Doug, who had shot the only 2 display albums we actually liked, was charging $1500 more than the base price to do the wedding and he doesn't do the reception because he's 'bored with it'. The girl tried to convince us that the owner 'trains' the other photographers in his style. Well, he clearly doesn't do a good job if I could tell right away which pictures were his! How do you even train photographers to a style? It's an art! I later heard from a friend that Doug shot her wedding and in front of her ultra conservative father was trying to tease them into doing 'lesbian shots' between the bride and MOH. I'm so glad we followed our instincts in the place.

We later booked with Twelfth Night who had the creativity and we just felt so comfortable in the studio. I knew right away when we were looking at the photos and talking with Dom that that was what we wanted.

You made a good choice with Sand Castle. My one cousin got married there a few years back and my other cousin will in November. The food is amazing and they really know how to make your guests feel special ;)

Re: Have you ever visited a vendor and wanted to walk out

I felt this way after visiting an RH. The BM acted as if I was wasting his time. He just handed my MOH and I the brochure of what the venue offered and said I have another couple to take care of. I didn't even get the chance to sit down even though I had an appt. I told him off then left.
