I wanted to do a poll to decide whether most 2011 brides have gone SERIOUS dress shopping yet. My sister wants me to start dress shopping but I think its a little early and I really don't want to go playing 'dress up.' What have you ladies been up to?

no, i haven't gone yet, but I'm getting a little antsy!!!! I want to start already! My plan was to start in June and buy once I'm a year out. This gives me 6 months to find something....but now I think I might just start a lil earlier, we'll see

1) I'm too fat and dont' want to discourage myself
2) I want to keep looking and seeing what's out there before I fall in love with something

Re: Have You Gone Serious Dress Shopping Yet??
I've just kinda been playing dress up at this point, although I do have one dress in the running. But I think I am going to start seriously looking for a dress, starting with this appt. I have on Sunday for the San Patrick trunk show.

I also want to wait till I lose some holiday poundage before seriously diving in. Plan to start looking in May.
Anybody else think it's RIDICULOUS for formal gowns to have a higher size label than the same 'street size'?!! For example: A girl who wears a 6 normally may have to order an 8 or a 10 in a formal dress.
I know size is just a number but do I have to be a bigger number on my wedding day???!!!

I already bought my gown! I do plan on losing about 10-15 lbs before the wedding but I will just have the gown taken in when it's time for alterations.

Don't stress over it!!
It is odd but you know that you're not that size in your everyday clothes!!
When I ordered my dress, I fit a size 6 perfectly. It didn't bother me or discourage me.
But on the topic, I don't think it's early to go dress shopping. I bought my dress but I didn't think I was going to find anything when I went looking. Sometimes you just know! Especially if you have your heart set on a dress that may discontinue by next year.
Dont stress!
Even if you don't go now, you have plenty of time!!

Re: Have You Gone Serious Dress Shopping Yet??
I am actually going for my first shopping trip tomorrow. I want to buy my dress with about a yesr to go, so I figured I would go and try on styles of dresses to see which looked best on me. I don't plan on buying (unless I find THE ONE) But I am hoping to save time when I REALLY start looking (April). I was going to wait until April to start even trying them on, but I was getting antsy... Episodes of 'Say Yes to the dress' didn't help either! So I guess you would say I am playing dress up for now?

nope not yet; i did go to RK bridal during lunch one day and just browsed; didn't actually try anything on. I was talked into making an appt w/Davids Bridal at last Bridal Expo at the marriot. I made the appt for March b/c i knew i was ready to shop...but i think i'm going to keep it and just go try a few dresses on.

Re: Have You Gone Serious Dress Shopping Yet??
I just bought my dress a few weeks ago I wanted to wait till almost a year out from the wedding. I only tried on 5 gowns and I found it right away.

I waited until the year make and tried on what felt like 50 dresses (I'm sure it was much less than that in reality). I also wanted to wait until I actually aNd the money to put down on a dress in case i ran into THE ONE.
Edit: I'm ordering my dress next week

I haven't started yet. I want to try on a lot of dresses so I know for sure what I like. But it's too early and I want to drop some lbs before I start.

Re: Have You Gone Serious Dress Shopping Yet??
I bought mine in March of '09 for my June '11 wedding. I went shopping like the week after we got engaged I counldn't contain myself. I did stumble upon mine & that was it I ordered. Didn't care if anything else comes out I loved it. Part of my planning it sounds funny, but I wanted to picture my dress & know what I'm wearing. Everyone is different. Go when you want if you want to wait to see more then you're not ready to buy if you want it now that's it!
