having 1st wedding related anxiety attack

having 1st wedding related anxiety attack

i'm so upset guys! i had a make up consulation today and i'm not happy with the results. (eyebrows were colored in ugly, hideous red color on lips) aside from the bad trial, i'm just upset and freaking out. i didn't budget much on hair & make up and go figure-that's what i'm probably gonna spend the most on. i can't justify expensive make up trials/day of fees (the trial i went on today was free). i gave the make up artist this heads up. i told her i'm only interested in m/u for myself [no bp, no mom's, nothing] and when i met her today she told me it would be $600 for me alone! i know, i know, it's my day, it's money well invested but there is no way i can do that! more than anything i'm upset i wasted her time and mine. she must've sensed my utter shock at her price cause she said the absolute lowest she could bring it down was 450, but again, i can't bring myself to justify that expense. here are some pics i'm so ready to just give up and do it myself. ugh!!! aggravation!!!

IMO 450 is a bit over priced for just you - Is she going to be with you all day long -

OMG!!! $450 just for yourself! Thats insane...PLEASE do not book her!

I have to say that the trial is not bad...I agree on the lipstick...def. not ur color but I love the blush and perhaps she should of used a diff. shade of eyeshadow...hope that helps

ETA: By the way..thats the same disappointed look I had on my face when I tried on my gown and it was tight...lol..so I can relate..

Honestly, I don't think it looks so bad, but if you are unhappy then definitely look around for someone else. Check out my people...for one person they charge 250 but they come to you...

thanks babe...

she's gonna be with me for 3 hrs before i leave to the church i could care less if she comes does my makeup and leaves, but whatever. 450 sounded ridiculous to me too, good thing you mentioned it's overpriced. biggest hurdle is finding someone besides mia to come to the bronx :-/

Re: having 1st wedding related anxiety attack

The thing is most of these hair and makeup artists have a base fee that they want for the day. They usually have a bride fee, then a bridesmaids fee, but they have a minimum of people they need to make their base fee. It doesn't matter if it's just you, or you and three people, it's still $600. If you had twelve people, I'm sure it would be more. My makeup artist told me she had a minimum of four, but I only had three as I had mostly kids for a bridal party, so I just paid her base price and figured if any of my friends were around, they could get their makeup done too. I paid a bit more, but got what I needed.

When is your wedding? Do you have to have someone come to you? If you can go to a salon and get it done, you'd only have to pay for you.

$450 is alot!! Especially if you weren't happy w/ the job. I understand what you mean about spending money on trials. I've had 2 and luckily I loved the 2nd one and she's only charging me $100. I'm sorry your stressing about this. I would say keep looking, you'll find someone!

Lupita!!! So sorry you're having such a hard time with your makeup!!!! What happened with Mia - did you have a trial with her? Is she booked? Or did you just not want to use her?

I have to say, quite honestly, that I do not like the colors she used on you - the lipstick is off and I'm not a fan of the eye shadow color or the way it was applied. Your skin (foundation etc) looks amazing though. BUTTTTTTT, seriously, $450??? I don't think so. I think $300 for makeup alone is too much. Shoot, even $250 (lol).

Hmmm, if not Mia, did you try Jacqueline Nicole? How about Sanchiko (although she might have a minimum). Or going to the major department stores and asking if any of them do makeup outside of the store. MAC counter people are all makeup artists that do work on the side, why not try them? I could give you the name of the lady who did my makeup for my epics if you like. She will come to you the day of and it's about $200.

that price is ubsurd...what the heck are some of these vendors thinking...you can get permanent make-up for that kind of money...ohh please stupid vendor trying to take advantage of brides as usual...you should post her name.....but vent over..i have a girl she is a new vendor if you want her info FM me...her prices are resonable & she comes to you...don't sweat it alot of brides before us had to go through stuff like this we'll make it through it too

pencils - you're right. it is her base fee. she says she usually does the whole bp, the mom's and when all is said and done its over 2k

yesenia - i didn't book mia cause i thought 150 was alot for make up alone but i'm VERY soon finding out this is average amongst vendors maybe i'll just suck it up and look into her. she's got enough good reccommendations on here...hmm...

charisma - thanks for the vent, that's totally how i feel. i'm gonna look into local salons and stuff now. maybe someone near me in the bronx that's somewhat talented won't charge me an arm and a leg for freaking paint on my face! grrr!

sylvie and everyone thanks for your hugs and support! i'm def not using her and my quest continues!

I don't think you look bad. But I know it feels when you are looking for the wow affect and your like hey what happened here!! But $450 is a damn rip off!!!!!!!

Re: having 1st wedding related anxiety attack

I'm sorry, but $450 for makeup isn't money well-invested. If you want this person and can afford her, that's one thing... but you can get comparable makeup done for $50-100 at a good salon. I've had makeup trials with these expensive, well-known makeup artists that looked awful compared to what the makeup artists in the salon can do. Most of these hair / makeup artists work in salons normally -- and if you went to have your wedding hair / makeup done in their salon, you'd pay a small fraction of the price you'd pay for them to come to you. I'm going to my regular hair stylist and makeup artist the morning of my wedding - they do the best job and the cost won't break the bank.

IMHO, it's not worth $450 for makeup for one day.

I'm sort of new to all of this planning & I can't say that I have even started to look at make up/hair but $450 sounds like A LOT!!! Especially if you weren't happy with the results!

I don't think it looked bad your makeup trial ~ but if you are not happy with it ~ then $450 - $600 is definately not worth it ~ you have to be happy and feel beautiful ~ not pissed or upset! I am soooo sorry about your experience I probably would have fainted if i heard those prices tooo holy moly! i am using M I A from B r i d a l l o u n g e all though i was not happy with the colors that i chose the first time around ~ she was really sweet and i felt comfortable with her and i know she is talented i should have just let her do her job instead of showing her the pictures that i liked!

Good Luck sweetie ~ I would go for another vendor!

Re: having 1st wedding related anxiety attack

this clearly isn't my area of expertise, but from reading reviews and hearing about what FW is doing, 450 sounds like you're being taken for a ride.

If you can't find LIweddings vendors to come to the BX, maybe you should check out some westchester places? Much closer trip from Yonkers or White Plains to the Bronx than the Island.

hth!

$450 is a little over the top- try to find someone who works at a makeup counter- they could charge less.

Have you looked into Melinda? She is a vendor on here and did my sister's wedding and she did a fantastic job.

I agree with you about your trial- the color are all wrong and IMO the eyeliner is way too thick for your beautiful eyes- it's making them look smaller.

Good luck!

Re: having 1st wedding related anxiety attack

Not for anything...my makeup artists (in a salon in Queens) was charging $75 for the trial and $75 for the day of. She did a beautiful job and spent 2 HOURS on my trial. It came out gorgeous...and talking to her was a lot of fun. The salon is near my mom's house (where I'll be getting ready). I'll be getting my hair done right before.

The prices you quoted are over the top (at least for me).
FM me if you want more info.
