Having a dress altered by a seamstress questions!

I have my dress already. It is slightly too small and I'm working on losing weight..about 15-20 lbs before going to a seamstress, BUT When do I contact one? I have 4 months till the wedding and I'm trying to put it off as long as possible?

For those who went to a private seamstress..how soon before the wedding was your first fitting?
THANKS!

I used a private seamstress and I started fittings 1 month before the wedding. My dress was hollow-to-hem though so the length was perfect, I only needed the sides taken in and the bustle, and cups.

REALLY? thats great cause thats kinda what I wanted to do. My dress is actually good on length too. It really shouldnt be altered on the bottom anyway due to it being all lace.

I was thinking of calling the seamstress you used. When she I call her?

Who are you guys using for your seamstress? My bm's are going to need someone.

My dress was about two sizes to big and seven inches to long so i started alterations about three months before the wedding. I also had her add crystals to my dress so since i didn't want anything rushed i started early and she did an amazing job.
You also have to rememeber that they do have other clients so i would say the sooner the better.

I need to take my dress to a seamstress too, as I am not getting it altered where I purchased it. The length is good, I just need the sides and top taken in. Also, 2 of my BM's need an outside seamstress as well.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

TIA!
