Can anyone clue me into a charity that is accepting furniture...and would come before October?
Goodwill's voice mail said they can not pick up and suggested we visit our nearby store. The store closest to me in Centereach said they do not accept (store is too small)
Big Brother/Big Sister said they'd come some time in October.
Salvation Army has a recording and we haven't gotten a call back. We left 2 messages since Saturday.
Any other thoughts?

Re: Having a hard time donating furniture
St. Vincent DePaul has a store that carries a lot of furniture - I think it's in Smithtown. I don't know if they pick up, but it's worth a call.

Gee - thanks! I didn't know they had a store out here. I am only familiar with the one in NHP.

Try North Shore Animal League. I know they take a lot of donated items. We donated our car and they had someone come and pick it up. It is worth a phone call.

Did you try your local church? They may know of a family in need of such items that will arrange transportation.

We donated our whole living room set to Catholic Charities. They can schedule an appointment to come pick the stuff up and they give you a receipt for tax purposes.

WOW - thanks for all the thoughtful responses!
LOL to those who asked for charity. I'd love to help out but I need a receipt from an entity recognized by the IRS as a notforprofit group.
Does anyone have the number for Catholic Charities or St. Vincent DePaul in Smithtown?
I'm usually good with google.com but I can't seem to find their phone numbers.

For those who are interested....
I was able to connect with St. Vincent DePaul. They are coming next Wednesday. Hoorah! For those who may need their phone number, the pick up line is 800-884-7837.
BTW....
I called North Shore Animal League. The woman I spoke with didn't know if they accepted furniture, just the autos and she put me into someone's vmail.
I called Catholic Charities of Rockville Center. The woman said she's been there for over 10 years and they have never accepted furniture b/c they do not have the facilities. DDunne - maybe it was a different catholic charities you donated to? You live in TX, right?

Re: For those who are interested....
Yes, I donated in Texas. I just assumed they would accept the same types of donations in NY.
