Re: having an engagement party and bridal shower...
I had an engagement brunch that only our immediate families were at. I don't consider that an engagement party. And I don't think that an egagement party could even take the place of a shower. That's just my opinion. I think it's more than ok to have a shower, too.

I don't think it is tacky or rude. I think it is better not to have them to close together but I think it is nice to have both. FH and I had our engagement party last week and we had a wonderful time. I will probably have my shower next April or May. I think it is nice to have both.

Since it the shower is almost a year later than the e-party I don't think it is tacky at all.

I dont think its tacky at all. I am having an e-party and my wedding is only 9 months from now. We wouldve had the e-party earlier but FH works schedule is really bad.

Re: having an engagement party and bridal shower...
I had an engagement party and a bridal shower. They were more than a year apart.
Our engagement party was big... We invited a lot of people to it. My bridal shower was small and intimate. There are a lot of things you can do so that you get to enjoy all the festivities w/o wiping out your friends and family, financially.
