Having Mom in the Delivery Room?

Having Mom in the Delivery Room?

My Mom mentioned to me yesterday that someone told her how WONDERFUl it is to be in the delivery room with your daughter.

Now me and DH talked about it and he would prefer it just be us. He thinks it should just be between husband and wife. But I am superclose to my Mom. I feel bad not having her there...

What do you guys think.

Also, I am a little shy but I still want her there..

Any opinions, suggestions?

Well, when I went to the hospital, I was supposed to be induced. My mother left but came the next day when I was already almost ready to give birth.
I didn't mind her being there, I think it brought us more closer.
The only thing was that as soon as My daughter came out, my mother started bawling so my dh said that she stole his thunder.

I would say no. The moment really is special to you and your DH. Plus, if you have your mother there, then what about your MIL? It's as much her grandchild...JMO

True, but I could NEVER have my MIL there...

I'm really torn about this too. I definitely want her in the labor room with us, but once it's actually time to deliver, I think I might only want DH there. I am really going to want some private time with just me, DH and the baby and I know that my mom might make that a little difficult.

My mom was there during my labor with Emma. I was so happy she wanted to be in there. There is just something about having your mommy when you are in the worst pain of your life. Very comforting. DH still played a big roll!

Mine (if all goes well) won't be far away during that time but she will not be in the room. My mom had C-sections and even though she would love to be there for me she believes that that time is for husband and wife and not her.
She also doesn't want to steal Dh's thunder for when he comes out of the room all excitied and tells her all of Jack's Stats and she can see the proud papa and be taken back to see me with the baby.

Also I want my mom to sleep as much as a first time soon to be Nana can because I will need her to help us out and be fresh that first week when she stays with us.

My mom was in the delivery room until it was time for me to push-then it was buh-bye! My DH wanted it to be a special moment for us.

I had my DH, my Mom and my MIL in the room and I wouldn't have had it any other way!

I would not mind having my mother thre...afterall she did give birth to you - but on the other hand I agree with your DH too. I think its a personal choice that you both should agree on. It is such a wonderful moment in your life. Perhaps if your DH doesnt agree to have her in the room - maybe they will let her be outside the room?

Re: Having Mom in the Delivery Room?

I definetly plan on having my mother in the delivery room. She is a nurse and i go to her about everything and she will put me at so much more ease then my nervous husband would ever do. So i definetly want her there (when i get preggo), however I do not want MIL in there.....

Re: Having Mom in the Delivery Room?

I told my mom she could join DH and I in the delivery room but she would have to be quiet. I want it to be about me and Dh and the new baby. My mom agreed because she so desperately wants to be with us for the great experience. As for my MIL. NO WAY!!!!! She would drive me nuts. I want it to mainly be about our new family not open to everyone. I know I am being selfish but My MIL has a way of making me twitch so I don't think it is a good idea to have her around during that time. She will get a call after the baby is born.

I'm not sure what I would do...for now I would say that it will probably be just me and DH...however, my DH works 2 hours from us. This may be a problem. My mom might HAVE to be in the room with me.

Even if DH was able to be there with me...I may need my mom for support and just to be there with me...

My mom stayed with me while I was in labor. But for the actual birth it was just me and my FH...adn the docs and nurses.

My Mom was in the L&D room with me and my husband for our first born, but she got too annoying and I had to kick her out. I think it was too much for her to see me in so much pain, so she started touching me and massaging me and telling me childhood stories. Now tha i think of it, it was sweet, but at the time it was 'over the top'.

I knew that my Mom and MIL would be on their 'best' behavior so that's why I allowed both of them and they stepped back and let me and my DH enjoy the moment.

My mom was with me in the delivery room. DH held my hand and tried to encourage me/make me feel better
My mom helped hold my legs in place and coach me!!!! My poor mom saw EVERYTHING
She tells everyone (still) that it was the most amazing experiance of her life watching her little girl give birth

I had the chance to have her in there also but I didnt and now i regret it. We are very close and I think she would of loved every moment of it. Then again my dad would of been a nervous wreck with out her in the waiting room! forget about having my MIL in there! That i would NEVER do!

Re: Having Mom in the Delivery Room?

I was able to have my mom in the room with me but she wasn't able to be with me. My youngest brother had started school the week before I was due. So she wasn't able to be here she had to go back to PA. I am actually glad it was just FH and I it was more intimate and was an amazing experience I don't know if it would of been the same with someon else in the room since it was our first.
