Having Mom in the Delivery Room?

Original post by DeniseMang

My Mom mentioned to me yesterday that someone told her how WONDERFUl it is to be in the delivery room with your daughter.

Now me and DH talked about it and he would prefer it just be us. He thinks it should just be between husband and wife. But I am superclose to my Mom. I feel bad not having her there...

What do you guys think.

Also, I am a little shy but I still want her there..

Any opinions, suggestions?

I say no.
This is a special moment for you and DH and especially if you two have discussed it I would leave it that way.
I want it to be just DH and I as well.

Wow - I'm getting choked up just thinking about it, but I couldn't imagine NOT having my mom there too as I was giving birth. We are really close, and as much as I love DH and want to share that moment with him, just knowing that my mommy was there to coach me through this (she's given birth three times!) would really comfort me. It would mean everything to her to be there as well for her little girl's first baby - her grandchild. I couldn't take that away from her. I don't think it would infringe on me and DH spending time with our first baby - Mom can leave once the baby is brought out so DH and I can have that special mommy-daddy-baby moment Okay, I need to go NOT cry now!

Oh no, don't cry! :) What a beautiful post! :)

I think that is beautiful. I think I might have my Mom in there with me for most of it and then just me and DH when it is time to push. We will see...

I think it will just be me and DH. It would be unfair to DH to have my mother there, in a more central place than him doing what he sees as his job.

Plus I want the baby to come out and see the two people that matter most to him in this world. I want our faces to be the first baby sees. Sense of comfort!

Denise, I would listen to DH though and take into consideration what he is saying. It is, after all, the most important day in his life- watching his two special women go through life altering events!

I had my mom in the delivery room and I was so glad she was there. She was was so supportive and not a pain at all. It totally depends on your relationship with your mom and how your husband feels. I feel blessed that she was able to be there.
