Having others get ordained online...

Sorry to crash I'm an 08'er, but I'm hoping to find other gals out there that have gotten a friend/relative ordained to officiate their wedding... We are not religious people and we decided to have a dear friend get ordained to officiate our wedding, and he is thrilled!! He's a comedian and actor so its right up his alley! BUT I am wondering what web site I should point him to to get ordained... and wondering what legal steps need to be taken to make our wedding legit.... Hopefully somebody else is doing this as well... Thanks girls!!

check with your marriage license bureau...because we ran into legality issues....FH's sister got ordained online..and of course the one we found & she used is NOT recognized by NYS i think...or our town....soooo we are still having her perform the majority of the ceremony...and our local Town Clerk is coming for a fee of $75 to make the whole thing legal...

Make absolutely sure that it's legal. I know someone who was advised not to do it by their lawyer because it can come up as a legality issue years after marriage--this has happened to couples. The example they were given had to do with a contested will--I think the kids of the first marriage contested that the second marriage was never legal because they were married by a friend with a mail-order ordination. Even if it was ruled that the marriage was legal, the issue was there, and wouldn't have been if they had been more traditionally married. We had thought about it briefly, but then decided not to risk it, as we've heard that it's a dicier thing legally in New York than in other states. So, be careful.
