I am so sad...about a month ago I dropped my ering and wedding band off at the jeweler to be soddered together...I called about a week and a half ago to see if they were done and he told me he was going to be cutting them in a day or two (the bands are so thick that he has to cut the backs off and make one thinner band so I can bend my finger)....I called today and it still isn't done so I panicked and went up there....he didnt even touch the rings and now there are two stones missing.
I talked to his wife when I got there and he called from the back 'we just talked to her tell her to take the rings and come back another time.' I explained to his wife that he has had the rings for a month and was told that he was going to cut them a week and half ago. She said he has plenty of time to do it before the wedding but he has been doing some coin collection and has been focusing on that and she just has to get him to do my ring. I almost started crying when I saw the two stones missing...I told her the ring was not missing any stones when I dropped it off...I had that ring for 2 and half years and never lost a stone...I am panicking. Then the son came in and said didnt I just talk to you and kind of blew it off (I talked to the son today on the phone).
I know I can use moms ring (my mom passed away last sept so I wear her ering on my right hand) for the wedding if all else fails but that is not my wedding ring and my ring won't be blessed and all of that....I hope he does my ring. I feel like he was so mad that I went up there. I apologized so many times that I didn't want to be a pain in the butt but I was just panicking. His wife seemed to understand so hopefully she will just make him do it. Ugh...stressing!!! I guess I will go back up there on Sat. and if it isn't done force him to replace those stones and just take the ring. I can't believe this is happening.
Please pray my ring is fixed and ready in time...why can't people get their stuff together...I have everything covered on my end and everyone I am relying on is causing stress.

You poor thing!!! Did the guy say why the stones were missing?!?! I can't even comprehend why they'd be missing if he didn't even do the work you went to him for. I think your best bet in this situation is his wife. She seems level headed and would likely understand your emotions (being a female and having an engagement/wedding ring herself!) What did they tell you...just wait for how long?!
Aw prayers your way

Re: having panic attack
I am feeling like he may have taken them out to fill someone elses order or something like that!!! NEVER NEVER NEVER have my stones fell out and all they are doing is sitting in an envelope! I am going to go back up there Friday and see what progress has been made. I have had so many things done by this guy and this is so unexpected! How can someone do this with someone wedding rings?

Re: having panic attack
Ugh!! how terrible! will they be replacing those missing diamonds? I hate this story!! That's just messed up. It also hits a nerve with me because I have my own issues with my jeweler! They did roughly the same crap to me. I had a few things going on. One was with my great grandmothers channel setting ring... it needed 3 stones replaced and needs to be larger. I was told those kinds of rings can't really be resized.... so I was surprised when they said they can do it. So they called on a Friday set up a date and time (Sat 1 pm) to come in to pick it up because supposedly it was done. They then call me on sat at about 2-3 pm to tell me that they can't even do what I needed them to do. This is of course AFTER they held onto the ring for 3 plus weeks. The guy who called telling me it was done and when to pick it up was the SAME guy who called after the pick up time to tell me they couldn't do it. I was furious! they lied! Outwardly. So i said something then and there... I was just like... are you the same guy who I spoke with yesterday to tell me to come pick it up about 2 hours ago? He said yes. I said... well I'm certainly glad I'm busy and couldn't get down there yet. THEN he appologizes.
To make matters worse.... they were also making me a custom wedding band.... and that got all screwed up. they did the designed on 2 of the 3 sides... after they said they would design it on all 3 sides. So FH picks it up and doesn't really look at it... because he's a dumb male. We take it back to be fixed. I get it back and it looks like someone nawed on it.... like it was chewed with bite marks all over it. it's poor poor quality and I'm pissed. I'm especially pissed because it was about $2200. and for it to be that much and be crappy just angers me. I went back there today for it to be fixed. Who knows what I'll end up with. They wrote on the paper that it must be done by November 4th... 2 days before the wedding. We shall see. If it's not done... I'm just getting my money back and going elsewhere for the rest of my life. I'm beyond furious with these people. I feel like they lie to me. they make it like THEY do the work in house... and then it turns out they send it out elsewhere.... so if you really think about it ... the instructions are coming 3rd hand. I mean really... i can just take it to the other company my damn self and make sure it's right and tell them exactly what I want... I'm beyond annoyed. So I def feel your pain. JERKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what to tell you about getting the stones but I can recommend a place that redips for $25 a ring.

Re: having panic attack
You need to go pick your rings up. Ask them for the stones back and take it somewhere else. There are plenty of reputable jewelers on LI and in the city. I do not want to upset you but I would also have the stones checked.

Re: having panic attack
Oh my God, I am so sorry. This is the last thing you should be going through!
I would have lost my shhhit after a week. I saw your ring in your album and it's stunning btw! But I can say this- my Dad did jewelery and I know that when you have a setting like that and have to solder a peice, diamonds have to usually be removed because the metal shifts causing prongs to shift which causes diamonds to fall out.
Did he create the ring? If he did, he should have no problem fixing it. Just call them everyday and be on his assss about it. If you push, it will get done. I have an excellent jeweler in the city if all else fails. I hope this gets taken care of PRONTO for you!

Re: having panic attack
Ok...so FH spoke to the jeweler and his wife...FH explained that i was very upset how this whole thing was handled and how we are both worried that we won't have those rings for the wedding. The jeweler said that he was surprised I came in yesterday when he said he would have them done on the phone...then FH said how could anyone blame me for panicking when he has had them for a month, nothing is done, and when I come the ring is missing two stones. (FH said that they were both a little heated at this point). Then the wife said the stones being missing is nothing, that it happens all the time and laughed...which made FH mad and he said that two missing stone is nothing to laugh it how are we suppose to know that it is common for diamonds to fall out when you are working on it and she apologized for laughing and that she should have explained that to me yesterday.
So the jeweler went into the whole explanation that as an artist he needs to get his mind around it before he does anything and that when I called a week and a half ago that is what he meant when he said he was working on it...he was just thinking about what to do. FH said we were just surprised that it was not done yet because we had so many pieces done by him and he came highly recommended by a friend, at which point FH apologized and admitted to getting bogged down with other orders and that things were crazy.
So FH asked if he was capable of getting it done by Sat. and he said he would have the rings ready for me to try on by Wed. and that if any adjustments were needed to be made he could get them done by Friday....his wife said that the drop dead day is Friday it needed to be done, in which he agreed...so now we wait.
I trust in his abilities and now that FH went down there and told our side of the story hopefully this will move things along even faster. At this point I have nothing to lose....I just want them done and no one in 10 days will get it done other than him. The jeweler told FH to tell me how sorry he was at how he handled the situation yesterday and that he should have given me the time to reassure me that it would be done....he said that if he has to work nights he will do it to get it done. So FH is going to call or go up there if he has the day off on Saturday to check the progress. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!! Nothing like having things down to the wire!!!!
PRAY THAT MY RING WILL BE READY GIRLS!!!!!

I agree with the PP who said to take your rings and run. A reputable jeweler would have removed the stones and given them to you for safekeeping until the work was done on your ring.
Gennaro Jewelers is very reputable. They dipped and cleaned my ring for me while I waited and watched. They will not let you take your eyes off the ring while they work.
Have the jeweler replace the missing stones and take your ring elsewhere.
Good luck!

Re: having panic attack UPDATE AT BOTTOM
WOW that's still a nutty story. I don't get these jeweler's. My deadline is Nov 4th. I'm not sure if they will do what I want in the time frame... but worse comes to worse I'll demand my money back and buy any ring for the ceremony. I know it's not ideal... but it is a possibility.
I'm sorry for all that you are going through. I feel you on that. Hopefully this 'artist' fool will be able to actually do some physical work on it and not mental. I don't know many artists that have to think things through for OVER a month before even getting started. I get maybe a few days or a week at most... but a whole month??? How slow does this dude think???
