My FH and I booked the Watermill for next May and at first we were both excited about it. The last few days we've been having second thoughts about it. Neither of us really know why, we just look at eachother as if we made the wrong choice. Everyone tells me it's beautiful and the food is amazing so I don't know what the problem is. Maybe i'm starting to realize it's a little too fancy for me. I'm more laid back and casual and i'd love my reception to be more low key and on the water. We were first very interested in The Mansion at West Sayville... but then we saw the Watermill and that place fell on the back burner but I'm starting to find myself thinking about the mansion again. I dunno... maybe i'm just thinking about it too much. I'm not one to flip flop on ideas... I usually stick with my gut. Maybe that's why i'm so bothered by it. My mother has already paid half the bill for the Watermill and I don't want to give her that headache of getting the money back and starting all over. I hope this feeling goes away soon.
Has anyone else ever been invested into one place and then have second thoughts? What did you do? How did it go?
Thanks.

Re: Having second thoughts on RH...?
I have never been to the watermill for a wedding but I went with one of my best friends to see it for her wedding and I thought it was a very classy place! I heard great things about the watermill. But-If you are having second thoughts than I would look somewhere else..you want to be 100% happy in your choice! good luck!

We loved the watermill. Had it not been too far for our guests we would have seriously considered booking there. We liked the BM we met with, i've heard nothing but great things about them, I think you've amde a great choice. YOu should call you BM and discuss any concerns you may have

We almost booked watermill!! It's beautiful, and while being classy, I felt it was also laid back. It doesn't have any sense of pretension about it, and the food was pretty much fancy versions of stuff we'd make ourselves. I think it's always nerve wracking to choose and I think a lot of girls have second thoughts especially with allthe money were spending. Go with your gut, whichever you choose.
Good luck!!

There are times I second guess my rental hall choice, but then I think about why we chose the hall in first place. The feeling that that we both had when we knew that this was where we wanted to get married. Plus I'd be too worried that I would lose the money we already paid if we decided to switch.

Having second thoughts on RH...?
So. I was originally dead set on booking the watermill for my December wedding. Its those damn lights outside that I fall in love with every time I drive past.
Anyway... I'm booked at the Mansion at West Sayville so I found it interesting that you posted this.
I love the Mansion. Steve the BM insisted we come down before the holiday decor was down and we both immediately fell in love with the place.
I never ended up getting to the Watermill because no one ever called me back to set up an appointment. Still havent heard from them actually.
First... review your contract with the watermill. I know theres that 6 months Suffolk County vendor law... but I'm not quite sure exactly what stands with it and from what I've read there seems to be a lot of loopholes in it. If you can get out of your contract with out losing any money...then.... proceed to cancel.
BUT! Before DEFINITELY CANCELLING...
If you already have your other vendors booked.. I would suggest you call the Mansion and see if your date is still available.
If its not get a list of dates they're available and see if your other vendors are able to switch.
If you can get the green light for everything and all your vendors...
then maybe you won't feel any regret and have your wedding at the mansion!
Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do!!
side note: the food at the mansion was WONDERFUL!! we did our tasting with our moms the day we brought the deposit. SOO GOOD.
ETA: heres the link for the suffolk law

If i had the money for it i would definitely booked at the Watermill! Unfortunately im on a tight budget =( so i booked at the Stuart Thomas Manor bc of their all-inclusive wedding package!
Interesting you posted this bc lately ive been having second thoughts too! However, I know that wont get any other deals better than STM and our BM is such a nice and wonderful lady! So i'm sticking with STM and make the best out of it.

I agree! I love the Watermill for this exact reason, it is classy without being pretentious. Maybe you should go visit again and see how you feel. I kind of felt this way about my dress but then when I saw it again completely fell in love all over. So maybe you just need to be reminded of why you picked Watermill to begin with.
Good luck!!

There is obviously a reason why you chose the Watermill and I've heard nothing but great things about it! BUT if you are having second thoughts, you need to think about that too because it's your day and you don't want to have any regrets or not be 110% thrilled with where you get to celebrate!

It's been a while since I've been to the watermill and I don't remember much about it and I've only seen pictures of the mansion but its always possible to just have some more laid back decorations and theme also.. Obviously everything has to mesh but if you feel like its super fancy not everything has to be black and white and glitzy. Make it your own..
