Having some cat trouble. Can anyone help?

For some reason our cat has started peeing on the carpet. The litter box is clean and always is. But she has started peeing under the computer desk on the carpet. Last week FH cut the carpet out because it smelled so bad and now she started peeing on the tile floor. I don't know what to do, It smells and I am tired of cleaning up pee. Anybody ever had this problem with their cat? If so, what did you do to solve the problem? Thank you!!

I feel for you! When we moved, out of nowhere the cat started peeing outside of his litter box. His target was a hand-me-down loveseat. We eventually had to toss it...you just can't get that smell out!

It's possible that it may be a medical problem, most likely not. Have you changed anything about the litterbox...the litter, location, etc?

When you clean the area he's peeing, make sure you use a non-ammonia cleaner. Otherwise, he'll smell where he went previously and go there again. You can find enzyme cleaners at the pet store.

Try putting aluminum foil down on the area. Cats don't like the way it feels. That may be enough to discourage him. Cats are neat freaks-they won't 'go' where they eat, so you can try putting his food bowl on the area.

Do you catch him in the act? That's the key! Get a squirt bottle and lurk in the shadows. When you see him start to squat, fire away.

Hope this helps Good luck!!

My Mom's cat started doing this in one room of the house. She evidentually found this this that looks like a glad plug in and put it right above the area and he has stopped doing it. I will ask her where she got it, but in the mean time you might want to check with your local pet store.

The vet did everything changed the cats diet and all the normal courses of action and nothing helped but this.

Thanks girls, I am going to try everything you said, I can't take the stench anymore. I have caught her before and I chased her away. She is a funny little kitty, She always has this INNOCENT little face on.

She said that it is a spray it is called Boundary- but are you sure that she does not have a UTI?

She got the spray in Stop and shop

Your cat may be having a medical problem. This happened with my daughter's cat when he had a magnesium buildup that was causing a blockage. You might want to have the cat checked at the vet.

Re: Having some cat trouble. Can anyone help?

If a litter-trained cat starts to pee anywhere else besides the litter box, find out if there is a medical condition. My cat did this last November and it turned out she has kidney disease. She stayed at the vets for two nights and since she's been home, she hasn't peed anywhere but the litter box. Cats will pee and poop outside the litter for three reasons:

1. The litter box is dirty.
2. The cat has a medical condition and is telling you that he or she is not feeling well.
3. The cat has decided to misbahave for some reason.

I urge you to call the vet to see what he or she may see. But it sounds like your cat may be sick. This is what cats do when they are sick.

My cat does it, but out of spite

Maybe she might have a urinary tract infection. You should get her checked out just in case, so this way you may know.

Actually, we have a boy cat too. He might do it as well, but we are not home all day. I have only caught her. Hmm, maybe we need to take them on a little trip to the vet. Mr. Peabody used to pee all the time before we got him fixed, but he stopped after he was. However, Miss Kitty had never done this before, until about two months ago. Time to go visit the Kittyatrician!!!

One of my cats starting doing it when she moved to a new place, so have their been any big changes for your cat lately? My other cat started doing it for a llittle while and we couldn't figure out why... we then found out that she was sick with cancer and it was too late to help her. I would take your cat to the vet to get her checked out.
Pet supply stores should sell some kind of cleaning solution that will take away the smell completely for the cat. Even if you clean it up, the cat can still smell it and return there. That might help a little too. Good luck. I hope she's okay.

Oh my cat did that. He also pooped everywhere. the vet said he was healthy, just a little mental so we went on some medicine and now hes all better and using his box again!

You should get your cat checked out by a vet. My cat was peeing over everything and I thought it was because he was misbehaving. But it turned out that he was having urinary issues. He almost died from blockages. If I knew this I would have saved us lots of money and agony.

This is very common with NEUTERED MALE CATS! If the cat blocks, you must take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. It is one of the few conditions that kill cats quickly. After three blockages, we decided to have the cat version of a sex change operation. All in all, this cat cost us $5000. Now he is perfectly fine and the peeing has stopped.

Here's my $.02

My kitty (male fixed) only peed or doo-dooed outside the litter for a few reason (as named above).

Sick - Yeah he got UTI's and kidney infections. Doc said males around 3 or so start falling prey to those often.

Pissed at me - He was really ticked off at me when I locked him up to heal (under orders) and once when my ex fiancee (way back) threw him off the bed in his sleep. Sinatra pissed EVERYWHERE, but specifically inside my ex's shoes. hehe (it was a sign, i swear)

Your female probably just mistook that area for an ok place to go because the smell is still there even if you can't smell it yourself.

I agree take them both in for a check up. There are products out there to sanitize the area.

Good Luck.

My mother, who has three cats herself, told me to use vinegar to get the smell out of a cat urine stain. A cat will pee in a spot where he or she smells urine. Vinegar counteracts the smell of urine.

Re: Having some cat trouble. Can anyone help?

Our cat had started pooping on the floor this summer on and off. I would clean his box out every morning and at night so it wasn't dirty. We ended up buying another litter box and putting it right next to the other one and have had no problems since. Now he alternates between the two. You could try that it might work. But, a trip to the vet would be a good idea too just to make sure everything is ok.

One of my cats started peeing outside the box recently as well- I bought this deterrant spray and it has since stopped.

If they have a UTI they avoid the box because they associate it with pain- but I have seen both of the cats in the box doing their business so I really don't know WHAT their problem was or even which cat it was!

Now I keep NO MORE bath mats- which sucks for me, but there is nothing I can do

good luck! I feel for you

Hi. We went through this with our kitty. He has kidney failure, but a big part of the problem was behavioral as well.

The vet recommended:
* Making a LOUD noise when you catch them doing this. We installed a motion sensor in the location he had chosen to pee on. When he got close to it a lod chiming would go off. It scared him and alerted us to go check for pee.

*Nature's Miracle for Cats- is a great stain and odor remover!!

*Make sure you take your kitty for a check up to see if it is a bladder or kidney infection

Good luck!!!
