When I asked this question last year, someone told me $1k/day soup to nuts....I thought that was crazy and could be done on a budget....well after coming home from the HM that was right on target! Everything is very expensive bc everything is geared toward tourists. You can probably cut out some things like going to two or three star hotels and eating cheap. You can FM me for more details if you want.

Re: Hawaii Girls
We set a budget of 10,000 for 12 days and 11 nights. Some hotels run specials where you are able to get breakfast included as part of your hotel stay. Cuts out 1 less meal per day. Also alot have free nights- for example, the westin in maui has a 3rd night free promotion running with a free upgrade and complimentary breakfast for two. It is definitely very expensive. I did my own research and was able to get a better deal than what a travel agency could do for me.

Re: Hawaii Girls
we're doing a 12 day cruise so food is included, obviously, plus two extra days in a hotel ... our total cost for the two weeks will probably be around $6-7k (including excursions, food, etc)

i haven't really budgeted yet. if you have AAA you may want to look into booking with them. some of the hotels are significantly less.

Hawaii can be as expensive as you want it to be or a little more cheaply done. DH and I didn't have a budget at all and we ended up spending about $15,000 by the time everything was totaled up. However, we were there for 23 nights but it was off-season.
The trip itself for hotels, interisland airfare and rental cars was $7200. We got our flights to/from Hawaii using FF miles.
However, we spent a TON of money on stuff for our house - DH and I love art galleries and there are way too many of them on Kauai and Maui!
The rule of thumb we used was that every excursion was a minimum of $500. Some were more (helicopter ride) some were less (luau).
Food we didn't notice was all that much more than here. Drinks were super expensive but we found that going to the local supermarket and stocking up in the hotel room or drinking the happy hour specials definitely kept costs down.

I haven't even booked anything yet, but I'm figuring the whole trip will be close to $10k for 10 days.
