FH and I REALLY want to go to Hawaii, but, I'm so not a good flyer! I think I would be fine going direct from NY to HI, BUT as far as island hopping is concerned, do yuohave to take small planes?? I was thinking Maui, Kauii, and possibly Oahu?? Any experiences, help, info would be appreciated...thanks!!

Most of the time, they are not small prop planes. Most are 3 seats across, an aisle, then another 3 seats across.
The flights are short too - I think the longest one was 35 minutes.

Kauai and Oahu are closer to each other. Maui is more south/east. All the islands are magnificant, but what are you looking to do or what setting are you looking for? Oahu would be the most 'populated' and touristy. Especially around Waikiki - its basically a row of hotels one after the other along the beach.
Maui, Lanai and Kona have a less 'city' feel to them. maui has the rainforest, the beaches, the mountains etc.
Kona has the volcanos, less hotels and more of a resort feel. About a 1 hour plane ride from Maui - I took one of those 8 passenger planes and it wasnt too bad.
Lanai is very small no point in really staying there - you can probably visit it on one of the snorkeling boat trips and swim with the dolphins or turtles or take a ferry from Maui - about 45min ride.
Wherever you decide to go in Hawaii, the island hopping is possible via small plane and it shouldnt be too bad... Just keep looking out the window at the gorgeous blue waters!! And def rent a car!!
