Hawaii Help!!!

Hawaii Help!!!

I know there has been threads on this but I would like some advise on what I wanted to do if anyone could help.

I wanted to stay to in maui and kauai, I don't like flying so I don't want to island hop more than once. We are thinking of doing a 12 night honeymoon so maybe 6 in maui and 6 in kauai.

Can anyone please recommend a nice hotel in both islands and any other advise I would need to know about hawaii. Like what to do, where to go, things like that.

Thanks,

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

we did a few nights in kauai then a few nights on maui. stayed at the hyatt on kauai, and the westin then hyatt on maui - long story, the hyatt screwed us, we set up fort in the lobby, finally got our room there.

at any rate, both hotels are superb. (not the westin, i mean the hyatts.)

on kauai we did a helicopter tour. we drove around the island. didn't but wanted to do the snorkel cruise on a cadamaran to the na'apali coast. REALLY wanted to do that. went to the beach house for dinner, heard it was excellent. very disappointed with food, price, and service. sunset was great, but you can see that for free on the grass between the restaurant and the water. we went all the way up the west coast to that beach you can only get to by going on dirt roads for miles and miles. very nice. this violates rental car contract.

on maui, we did the road to hana, and drove all the way around (which violates rental car contract too). we did a sunset cruise on a cadamaran. felt sick bc the water was rough. we did parasailing, which was fun. DH went sufing (I watched), he had a great time. wanted to do the volcano bike trip but never got to do it.

that's what we did. i recommend everything but eating at the Beach House on Kauai.

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

We are headed there on 9/21 in 28 days!! I can't wait!!

6 nights Maui at the Grand Wailea
4 nights in Kauai at the Hyatt (people have told me you only need a short time in Kauai since it's more quiet and not much to do esp at night)

Both are supposed be be amazing -most brides on this board have stayed at the Hyatt or the Princeville in Kauai and at the Hyatt, Four Seasons, or Westin in Maui. We are flying non-stop from Newark to Honolulu on Continental - I want to get it over with, I am dreading the flight but it will be worth it once we are there!

Eileen: just saw your post on the BeachHouse resturant - we have reservations there, now I am re-thinking that - any other good resturants you can recommend?

Depending on what your tastes are, I heard nice things about the helicopter tour but I think its pricy. But I also heard great things about the tour where you bike down a volcano, although you have to be up for an outdoors type of day. You leave at about 5 am and are dropped off at the top of the volacno where it is really quite chilly, and then you bike down, but I heard it was really a cool experience.

How long is the direct flight? I would want to fly out from JFK, do you know if they do direct or only newark?

Now your flying in to honalulu, are you then taking another flight to maui right from there?

We will be staying at the Hyatts at Maui and Kauai. Unfortunately, we will only stay at the Kauai Hyatt for one night. Long story... Everyone's suggestions are pretty much what I was going to give. We plan on doing a helicopter ride in Maui. It is pricey but I hear it is so worth it.

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

we went to Maui for 5 nights stayed at the four seasons and 6 nights in Kuai at the Hyatt with a day trip to Oahu to see Pearl Harbor.

The best trip of our lives. I did a detail review of my trip so do a search under my name. But on Maui we did do the biking trip down the mountain- the highlight we thought of Maui as well as the Road to Hana and Kuai we didn't do the helicopter but did the catamaran and snorkeling trip and the Napali coast..we thought it was great.
WE also did a kayaking/waterfall thing to--we didn't really enjoy that but if you are into kayaking 3 miles to a waterfall and hiking another hour to get there then more power to you..

Any other questions you can fm email me

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

The direct flight is 9 hours from Newark to Honolulu-Continental is the only airline that goes direct- others stop usually stop in Texas and then go to Honolulu. We are taking a flight on Hawaiian Air or Aloha Airlines (can't remember which) frm Honolulu to Maui and then Maui to Kauai and then Kaui back to Honolulu and then back to Newark. I am exhausetd just thinking of it but think it will be worth every single minute!

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

Our flights were this way on United:

JFK - San Fran - Maui - Honolulu - Kauai
From the time we left our house until we got to our hotel room: 21 hours

then we took a jumper to Maui on Aloha Airlines:
Kauai - Honolulu - Maui

and to get home:
Maui - Los Angeles - JFK
From the time we left the hotel until we got home: 16 hours

Our recommendation: fly first class. We did. It was worth it.

I know, hawaii can get very confusing because there is so many places to stay and so much to do, I just want to make sure I do it right.

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

u know what else makes me nervous! FH and I both hate fish. what else is there to eat there?

JuneBabyBride Posted:

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

I am sure there is other things to eat other than fish, like burgers and steaks and chicken.

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

I'm a vegetarian and I found places to eat. They have a lot of different kinds of foods all over Hawaii. If you look to traditional Hawaiian food, they rarely ate anything but veggies. Fish once in a while, so their diet was very good for them. Until we came along, introduced beef and other sorts of things, and now their diet is just as bad as any mainland American. But what I am trying to get at is that you'll find things to eat.
