Hawaii Help!!!

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

Hi!
I literally just bought our tickets to Hawaii today!!! we are going in March/April, but wanted to get as cheap a ticket as possible.

We were thinking of spending 3 days on Oahu (for Pearl Harbor, Diamondhead, etc) then fly to Maui for 8 days. Do you think that's too much time on Maui? (could there ever be too much time on Maui?)
should we skip Oahu altogether and do Kauai instead? we really want to see Pearl Harbor, but I'm not sure we can handle the hassle of doing it in 1 day.

Also, I think we're going to do the 4 Seasons on Maui. I've heard things about having to get up at the crack of dawn to get a spot by the pool. And I've also heard there are tons of kids by the pool (even at a 4 Seasons)? Did any of you who stayed there experience any of this?

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

My mom and dad went there 10years ago with tauck tours they loved the tour and my mom said she would do the tour again! she got to stay in all of the expensive hotels and most of all their meals were included. So was their activties ie: pearl harbor ETC. She loved it and said it was worth it, shes not sure if she would do it on her honeymoon though cause shes not sure if she would want to e on a schedule or just be alone and do things on her own. Im wondering now hmmm. tour or not to tour? She said if u dont want to do the tour the whole time then maybe take the 7 or 9 day tour instead of the 11 day tour and stay there for a few days on ure own!

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

feedback on which? TeeJay hit the nail on the head with having to get up early to get a chair at the pool. We experienced that on Maui. And with the kids.... OIY! I still haven't posted my honeymoon review, but to sum up:
The Hyatt on Maui called the day before the wedding and relocated us to the Westin, down the street. We got there, there were a zillion kids running around. It was NOT a honeymoon atmosphere. The Hyatt was much much nicer. Finally, after our 3rd night at the Westin, I went to the Hyatt and camped at the reservation desk essentially until they gave us our room back. The Hyatt was much more of a honeymoond hotel.

Don't get me wrong, the Westin was okay, but it was for a regular vacation you'd take with the kids, not for a couple who wants a romantic time alone together.

If you booked the hyatt, how can they bump you out and relocate you,

Re: Hawaii Help!!!

we are doing basically same thing. however we are doing less in kauai. i think we're doing 6 in maui, 6 in kauai but in reality one of those days will be us going to oahu to see the USS Arizona Memorial/Waikiki/Pearl Harbor. That's an all day thing so I don't count it as really being in Kauai that day.

As for Kauai, note that it's a very quiet island - great for relaxing but not much on nightlife from what I hear. At least not as much as on the other islands. I know a couple that like to do things - always on the 'go' and they said Kauai was boring. So if you're the same way, you might want to do less days in Kauai and more in Maui. I'm sure the travel agent you work with can be more specific as to what there is to do on the island.

I think we will be staying at the Hyatt on both islands, although the Westin (for Maui I think) is lookin' pretty good too.

ETA: ok, based on EmDonlon's post...maybe no Westin. =)
