I need some honeymoon advice. We're planning to go the Hawaii for a total of 10-11 days. We're planning to do Kauai, Maui and Big Island (in this order). First question: What hotel in Maui would you recommend Royal Lahaina or Kaanapali Beach Club? Second question: We're planning to do 3 nights in each island, but all the reviews here are raving about Maui and saying how it’s so beautiful and exciting that 3 nights might not be enough. So I'm thinking to cut the Big Island short and do only two nights and that way we can stay 4 nights in Maui. Any thoughts? Experiences?

Re: Hawaii HM advice
On Kauai I would stay on the North Shore, we stayed at the Hanalei Colony Resort, which is more of a condo complex but the scenery is amazing. Maui, I really liked the Wailea area, there is a lot to do, I spend the night in Hana and was really glad I did.. I've never been to the Big Island.

Kaanapali Beach Club or the Hyatt Regency in Maui. I would spend most of my time in Maui as it has the best beaches and night life. I would maybe spend 1 day on the Big Island.

The north shore of Kauai is lush, green and wet. If you play golf it's fabulous!! If you want sunny beach - go to the south. Don't miss Puka Dog on the south side. DELISH!!!
Maui is great for 3 or 4 days. The Road to Hana - totally overated but an experience. The rainbows you see in Maui are just unreal.
I did Oahu - beautiful but more like a large fancy Miami beach.
Either way -it's FABUOLOUS!

I think I posted to you on the 09 board. But spend as much time as possible in Maui, its beautiful. The North Shore of any island (except the Big Island) is the rainiest. But Aug is the dry season. The rainy sides are the prettiest because they are the most tropical.
Wailea is a great area on Maui because its essentially there dessert so it rarely rains. The Marriot is a good choice there. FH and I are staying at the Wailea Resort, but its a bit hectic for my taste, I let FH choose since I have been to Hawaii 7 times and its his first trip. Kaanapali is the considered the best side for the typical white sand beaches, its also the most built up because it is were the Kings lived. Kapalua is the pretties area of Maui by far, but unfortunately they closed the Kapalua Bay Hotel leaving only the Ritz Carleton. Now the Ritz is gorgeous if you have the money to spend, but its windy and one of those hotels were you have to put your towel on the chair at 6am to claim your spot at the pool for the day. I personally hate that. Hana is gorgeous but rainy. It has the 7 pools. I would consider a night there and then spend the rest elsewhere or get up early and drive there for the day, but its a 3 hour drive each way on a curvy cliff.
The Big Island is beautiful too though. Kona and that side of the island is sunny but the Big Island is the youngest so it does not really have white sand beaches. It has black and green sand beaches and coasts of lava rock. But it also has the active volcano which is really cool. Take a helicopter tour on The Big Island and fly over it.
I don't know much about Kauai because its my parents least favorite island so I was only there once. But its the most tropical. It is where they filmed Jurassic Park.
