I lived in Hawaii for almost a year. Each island has its own identity so it depends what you are looking to do.

Maui and Kauai are very relaxing. Maui has more to do than Kauai, which is pretty desolate. The princeville there is super nice! Maui look to stay in kaanapali beach area - the hyatt and marriott especially are really nice and very close to a cute town called Lahania.

If you go to the Big Island definatly stay on the Kona side of the island. Hilo is a bit underdeveloped and a not a resort town at all. Although Kona is further from the Volcanoes its worth taking the drive around the island because there is so much to look at. Its about a 2 hour drive.

I lived on Oahu so I am a bit biased but I think its great. Waikiki is super packed so don't be surprised. If I were to stay there I would either stay at the Sheraton Mouana Surfrider or Halekulani. Expensive but I think worth it. You probably won't need a car if you stayed in Waikiki bc there are tour buses that go to many parts of the island. If you were looking for a little bit more less of a packed atmosphere definatly check out the JW Marriott in Ko Olina. Ko Olina is a small town about 30 min outside of Waikiki. Its very exclusive and the beaches are all lagoons so its great for snorkeling. They also have a great luau in Ko Olina called Paradise Cove. We took all of our visitors here when we came.

Turtle Bay up on the North Shore is also nice and away from everything so maybe you can split your time on the island.

Continental has a direct flight out of Newark. So you may want to look into that as well.

It really is a beautiful place! Enjoy!

Re: Hawaii honeymoon

we are staying on Oahu just for a couple days, although not sure where yet, then spending six days each in Kauai (Hyatt? Princeville?) and Maui (the Hooilo House, my cousin stayed there and they loved it! Private B&B with gorgeous views!)

It's definitely going to be expensive but worth it! We figured after the wedding it's all about saving for the house and kids (!?) so when are we going to get to go to Hawaii again!? Enjoy.

We're going to Hawaii...Oahu, Kaua'i and Maui.
Outrigger on the beach in Oahu and I think the Westin in Maui. Not sure of Kaua'i...maybe the Hyatt. Looking to book next week.
