HAWAII HONEYMOON HELP PLEASE!!!!! - long...UPDATE!!!!

I am supposed to leave for my honeymooon on April 10th to Hawaii. The first week was SUPPOSED to be in Oahu and the second week is in Maui.

I don't know if anyone saw the post about the sewage spill in Oahu but to make a long story short, I called my travel agent and he asked FH and I to come to his office tonight and change our first week. Apparently this is the worst sewage spill in history and all the beaches in Waikki are closed.

The travel agent made a couple of suggestions and I was hoping that I could get advice from you wise women!!!

1. Fly to Oahu and take an interisland flight to Kauai and stay there for the first week. I think the hotel would be the Marriott

2. Stay in Oahu for a night or two and extend the rest of the trip in Maui

3. Fly to Oahu and stay for a night and then fly to the Big Island and stay at the Hilton there.

Any thoughts???

UPDATE:

I am very excited that our travel agent was able to change our first week to the Big Island. FH and I were torn between Kauai and the Big Island. We ultimately decided on to go the the Big Island. We are staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Our honeymoon with also be in Hawaii. I am so sorry to hear of the sewage spill, that is just terrible for all the wildlife and reefs that are there. If I were you I would try to to Kauai instead of Oahu under the circumstances. IT is supposed to be absolutely beautiful. (We will be going there too.) That way you don't have to think about the awful spillage. JMO HTH Good luck.

Since you'll be there for two weeks, I'd definitely do one of the other islands. I've heard great things about both but, I've heard more reviews on Kauai.

I'm sorry this happened when you were going there!

We're going shortly after you- this is what we're doing:

land in maui - connect to Oahu - stay one night
fly to Kuaui - stay 4 nights
fly from Kuai to Maui - stay the rest (another 4 -5 night)

I'd still go to Oahu for at least a night and then do either Kaui or the Big island

Sorry you're having to deal with this. It's probably the last thing you need right now.

With that said, I'd think about what kind of honeymoon you're looking for before you decide whether to go to Kauai or the Big Island. If you're looking to just veg on a beach, then I'd go w/ Kauai. If you're looking for a little more adventure, then I'd go w/ the Big Island. We have decided to do Maui and the Big Island for our HM.

Good luck. It'll be great no matter where you decide to go!

Your new plan is actually closer to the honeymoon we are currently planning. We want to start our trip in Kauai, move onto Maui, then end everything at the amazing Big Island. I keep hearing Kuaui is the best best best. It is the most romantic and beautiful. Oahu is more developed. The Big Island is also more laid back and beautiful, I hear the sites are amazing.
Don't fret, Kauai and BI are going to be amazing. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. In all honesty, go ahead and skip Oahu (unless you really want to see Pearl Harbor). Maui, Kuaui, and the Big Island are supposed to be AMAZING!

PS - I don't know anything about the Marriott in Kauai, though I do know about the Sheraton...it gets a lot of mixed reviews. I don't want to offend any ladies here -- but I'd check trip advisor.

I'm so sorry to hear about that. I'm in the travel industry and I have heard that the spill is pretty bad.

I know this is a total bummer, especially when you have your heart and mind set BUT...truth be told, you aren't missing too much in Oahu. I really don't want to offend anyone and am sorry if I do. It's beautiful but it's beauty pales in comparison to Kauai. If you can get a similar rate and hotel room in Kauai absolutely go. It is magnificent!!! It is the most beautiful of the Hawaiian Islands. It's a MUST SEE! Yes the Hyatt is probably the best property on the island. I believe the Mariott was the Princville resort which is very nice too.

i would go to oahu for 2 days just to see pearl harbor and diamond head and then fly to kuaui----i liked the poipu area of kuaui the best---i know the marriot is by the airport........

We were just there in February for our HM and were in 4 islands. Here is my take:

OAHU: Fun but very commercial. Very tourist-y and not terribly romantic.

HAWAII - Large but again not too romantic.

MAUI - Lots to do at night but not as commercial as Hawaii and a bit more 'pretty'

KAUAI - Definitely the most beautiful and romantic of the 4 we visited. If you are inclined to do tours via helicopter or catamaran, this is where I would spend the time to do it.

Honestly, I prefer Kauia over Maui from what I've heard about the two. I hear that Oahu is very busy and touristy (like Manhattan). I would prefer to relax more after all of the stress of the wedding.

If you can afford it - go for the Four Seasons on the Big Island....it is supposed to be the most amazing hotel. I know several people who have stayed there and who travel all over the world and they all say nothing compares to it!
Ask for a ground floor room - private outdoor shower!!!
