I am looking into Hawaii for my honeymoon. I was told to go to Kaui, Maui and Ohau from a friend of mine. I was wondering for those of you who have booked your honeymoons to hawaii what islands are you going to and for how long are you staying at each island and can anyone recommend a good travel agent they used in Manhattan or Nassau County. Also if you don't mind can you give me an idea of how much it is costing you. I understand if you can't. Thanks!

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
We are doing 3 nights in Oahu, 4 nights in Kauai, and 7 nights in Maui, in that order. We used a Liberty Travel office in Manhattan. It is costing about $6000. We leave next week!

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
My honeymoon is running about 5-6K. We're going to Maui for 10 days -- then on the way home, we're going to do a stop over in Las Vegas for three nights. (We leave NY 9/22 - leave Maui for Vegas 10/2 - arrive NY10/5)
Our price is pretty high due to the additional stopover -- plus September is a popular time for Honeymooners to visit Hawaii -- especially since it's hurricane season in the Carribean. We're staying at the Hyatt in Hawaii and the Venetian in Vegas.
We decided against the island-hopping. We both think we're going to be mentally & physically exausted from all the wedding stuff, and the idea of having to re-pack just to get on another plane to check in to another hotel & unpack did not appeal. I heard from a co-worker of mine that, if you decide you want to visit a different island while you're down there, it's very easy to schedule a day trip. I also heard doing a stop over for a few days is a great way to break up the flight -- which is something like 10+ hours long.
My travel agent is Terri O'Shea. She works for Trump Travel, but she works from her home in Baldwin most days. She's a cousin of one of my sister's closest friends. I think she's a doll! She's been incredibly helpful and attentive. Her home # is 516-223-2041 and her office # is 516-546-0300.

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
We are staying 5 nights on Maui at the KeaLani, and 5 nights on Kauai at the Radisson ( i think- we changed it, so I am not sure). It's costing about $5600.

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
yep. I can't remember exactl;y what we're paying - since I paid for the hotels seperately & we're paying it off in installments. It was probably closer to the 6k range, if not a little more. It's more expensive to stop in Las Vegas -- most planes stop in LA or San Fran on the way to Hawaii, so a stopover in either of these two spots is cheaper,

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
Our honeymoon sounds similar to Annie's post.....We're flying into Honolulu for 2 nights (Sheraton, Wakiki city view), Kauai for 5 nights (Sheraton, Ocean view), and Maui for 6 nights at the Whaler (condo, ocean view). I think the total trip is about $5800. We used Liberty Travel also, and they were very helpful. I checked for the airfare on the computer to see if they were giving us a good deal, and I couldn't find anything lower.
Good luck! Jen

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
My trip (which begins in two weeks, OMG!!!) is:
4 nights in Oahu -- Halekulani 3 nights in Kauai -- Hyatt 4 nights in Maui -- Four Seasons
We were able to use frequent flier miles for both of our plane tickets, so we were able to spend a bit more on the hotels. (These are on the expensive side!)

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
Valenia- I am also getting married at Carlyle and am also honeymooning in Hawaii. I wasn't going to go to Oahu at all but now I have been reading posts about the Halekulani and am thinking I should do 2 nights there instead of 2 nights on the Big ISland. I'm also doing 5 or 6 nights in Maui (Four Seasons) and 3 or 4 at the Hyatt in Kauai. I have a total of 11 nights. What do you think? Maybe I'll wait till you get back from your honeymoon to book mine. I am also dying to hear details about your wedding! Thanks

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
Novembergirl, you have excellent taste!
We have friends who went to the Big Island and loved it -- but hearing about it from them, we knew that all the reasons they enjoyed it would be reasons we wouldn't! LOL. They are much more outdoorsy types, and were doing long, difficult hikes. The scenary is unlike anywhere in Hawaii because of the active volcano.
What can I say, I'm boring. I wanted tropical lush surroundings and a fruity drink by a pool. My version of hiking is maybe a 15 minute trail from a car to a beautiful waterfall. No climbing rocks on a side of a cliff to see lava for me!
The Halekulani is from what I've heard an oasis in the middle of all the activity of Waikiki. High level service, and beautiful setting, but surrounded by city which doesn't appeal to some. We know we want to see Pearl Harbor, so we weren't going to skip Oahu.
Of course if you were planning to stay at the Four Seasons on the Big Island, I'm sure you wouldn't regret it. I heard they even have a man-made body of water for snorkeling (I'd love that --- I'm paranoid about sharks!!!).
Well, I'll be very happy to brag about my experiences in Hawaii and at the Carlyle in a month!!! EEEEEEKKKKKK!!!!

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
Hiking isn't really our thing either but I love being by the pool with a tropical drink! I'm thinking we can do a day trip to the Big Island to see the Volcanos. Originally I thought we'd do a day trip to Pearl Harbor but the Halekulani sounds like it's worthy of a stay. Now I'm just wondering how to divide up the other 9 nights so I think I will wait to hear your review before I book!
You must be very excited since it is all so close for you. Who is doing your hair and makeup, and are they going to the Carlyle the morning of the wedding or to your house? Actually, I'm not sure if your wedding is during the day but let me know.
And, you have excellent taste, too!

Re: Hawaii Honeymooners
Novembergirl - Yes, I am VERY VERY excited. It is quite difficult to concentrate at work!!!
If your wedding is November 2002, I suggest getting rooms held directly with the hotels. You can always cancel if you need to (Up to two weeks before there would be no charge), but at least you don't have to worry about them selling out.
I just made our reservation for the Feast at Lele on Maui, which is supposed to be a very excellend luau. I couldn't go to Hawaii without seeing one!!!
My hair and makeup are being done by the same women who did Cynthia's (Director of Sales at the Carlyle, who if you haven't met is quite stylish and has obvious good taste). They are both freelance, and are both coming to my parent's house the morning of the wedding (5:30 am!!!). I would be very happy to give you their names/numbers but don't feel comfortable posting them on the board without their permission (home phone numbers)... send me a forum mail message with your email
Talk to you soon, and happy planning.

Re: Hawaii
My Fi and I just returned from our honeymoon in Hawaii. We spent 3 nights at the Hyatt in Kauai and 8 nights at the Hyatt in Maui.
It was absolutely unbelievable. We did a mix of activities on each island and spent quality time at the pool sipping our mai tais.
We booked with Liberty Travel and hotel (ocean front rooms) and airfare and car rental cost us about $6000. We probably spent about $3500 - $4000 in spending money on the islands. It is expensive but there are ways of cutting costs if you need to. It was the most awesome experience. If anyone would like specifics, just let me know and I'll be happy to fill you in.
