This is for any of you who have been to Hawaii, whether it was your honeymoon or just a vacay.
Was Hawaii that amazing?
Was it any different / better than any of the carribbean islands?
What was different / amazing about Hawwaii?
Can you compare Hawaii to any of the Caribbean islands (similarities)?
Obviously this is a contender for our honeymoon. I just would like to know from some of you who have actually been there, and not a travel agent who wants to make money off of me.

Re: Hawaii Ladies
I've only ever been to the Caribbean islands on a cruise, and I've been to Maui numerous times
I have to say though, I LOVE Hawaii (I'm going to speak about Maui) If you are on the right part of the island in Maui the weather is way more predictable and certain than what I've heard of in many of the Caribbean islands. DH likes it because the language is English, the food and water are familiar, you don't need a passport but you still get the feeling of being in the tropics. Its also very luxurious!
I don't have anything bad to say about the Caribbean and there are some islands I would love to visit (St. Maarten, St. Lucia), but I would never turn down a trip to Maui, despite having been there about 8 times!

Re: Hawaii Ladies
I've been to almost all the Carribean islands numerous times (lots of family trips) and really I don't have anything bad to say about them. All are really nice and have plenty to do. If I had to pick, St. Lucia and Aruba are my fav.
But for our honeymoon we wanted something a little different but still sunny & relaxing so we settled on Hawaii and I had the same concerns as you....like how could it differ....Well it does, Hawaii is just AMAZING. The beauty of the islands is truly breathtaking, I've never seen anything like it. And DH was really impressed, he wasn't too excited for hawaii, he is really not a 'beach' guy, but we are already making plans to go back every two years.
I can't really put it into words other then beautiful. Maui is by far our favorite. I've said this before but it really has the best of both worlds, relaxation and plenty of activities.
I definitely recommend it, read my review for more info or FM me.

We went to Maui and Kauai ... We absolutely LOVED Kauai ..
Maui was great. Weather - not so much. We stayed in Wailea and every day at around 1pm it got very cloudy .. We stayed at the Grand Waliea. It was beautiful. We went to Lahaina - that was fun for shopping and having breakfast and just walking around. We did the Road to Hana - worth the trip. Also - best restaurant was Mamas Fish House. What we didnt love is that Maui is very commercial. When you are in the car driving around you can be anywhere. There are malls, McDonalds and KFC everywhere. Didnt feel like Hawaii to us.
Then we got to Kauai and holy shyt!!! ITS AMAZING. From the time you step off the plane the smell is so awesome. Its so green and lush and gorgeous. The resort we stayed at on Poipu Beach was called Koa Kea - INCREDIBLE. The weather was gorgeous every day. We did a cruise around the Na Poli Coast and it was as if we were in a Planet Earth DVD. Its so so beautiful there - nothing compares...

Totally agree with the above posts...its hard to 'complain' about the caribbean...duh....but Hawaii is TOTALLY DIFFERENT! There are inherent similarities (beach, sun, gorgeous weather)...but Hawaii is so dramatic and lush and the landscapes are just out of this world!
Mrs. Brown really summed it up - its like you're in a Planet Earth DVD!
It is breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's really interesting.....we never saw one mall or fast food restaurant other then a subway. We weren't in Waleia though. Near the airport in Maui was more commerical, like a Walmart and Costco, but near our hotel and daily activities it was very scenic. I have to remember to stay away from that area now on our next trip!

Re: Hawaii Ladies
I agree with everyone else's comments...
The Caribbean is nice - for the most part nice weather, nice beaches. Generally a nice place.
But Hawaii is just breath-taking! The views are unbelievable, the water just an amazingly crystal clear blue, the weather wa gorgeous. I've only been to Oahu, but it was our best trip - even better than our honeymoon!
We decided to go to Antigua in the Caribbean, since we'd never been there before, instead of going back to Hawaii for our honeymoon, and while we had a great time in Antigua, I can't WAIT to go back to Hawaii... I think we're going to try to plan a trip for February to go back!
