My FH and I are attempting to plan our honeymoon to Hawaii now. His mother is actually paying for the trip which is awesome, but I would also like to have some input into the planning. She is kind of taking over :( Anyway, before she plans the whole thing, does anyone recommend an island we 'just must stay at' because it is so romantic and picturesque (as long as there is still stuff to do) or a hotel that isn't too crazy expensive, but still very nice and on the water? Also, how long is a good amount of time to go to Hawaii? I mean you lose a day going and coming back...is 10 nights enough? TIA!! <3

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
When I went to Hawaii I only went to Ohau, but it was amazing. Some incredible beaches are there Waima Bay (tons of movies are filmed there), Sealife Park which is in the movie 50 first dates, Waimea Falls is a waterfall you have to hike up a mountainy to get to but it is worth it, they do a show of diving off the cliff into the water. Downtown Waikiki has awesome night life with resturants and shopping like the International Market Place, Diamond head the volcano is there, Pearl Harbor is there if you're into history. And of course they have luaus! That was so much fun, you go to different tables like a mini fair and you can make a head piece out of long leaf pieces, and make lei's and they have a spear throwing contest and guys climbing coconut trees. Then of course the pig roasting, during dinner they have dancers on stage. Then you can get up on stage and they teach you the hula.
10 days is great, but if you can do 2 weeks I'd try to extend it. You want to be able to sit by the beach or the pool for a day and relax and enjoy yourselves, and then the next day go sight seeing and explore the islands. We only went for a week and it was NOT enough time, especially after that flight!
lol sorry I wrote so much. You'll have a blast no matter where you go, its an amazing place and so clean!!

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
My sister went to Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island. She said she liked Maui for its beauty and Oahu is like the main place to get around and get to know about Hawaii but not as beautiful as the other two. I am planning on going to Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. I hear Kauai is stunning. I have things planned for each island if you would like to know what I'm doing shoot me an FM!

Yea, we might end up doing 12 days and taking 2 weeks off so we can factor in the travel time. Thanks for the advice!!!

Re: Hawaiian Honeymoon Help
I lived in Hawaii for 2 years. I would recommend Maui. It's very beautiful and romantic. There is a lot to do. Oahu is nice, too, but if you want a little less commercial, Maui or Kauai is a better option. I lived on the Big Island, so I'm very partial to Kona and Hilo. Hilo is the rainy side and Kona is the desert side. Hilo has Volcano National Park, which is a MUST see. You can actually walk on an active volcano and you can see the lava go into the ocean.
I would definitely recommend trying to get a layover in California. The flight direct is 10 hours there and 9 hours back I believe. Plus, sometimes you have to get another connection in Oahu to get to the outer islands. Honolulu airport is kinda confusing. I recommend looking into go!airlines to fly to outer islands from Oahu. Sometimes is cheaper than Hawaiian.
Also, check out craigslist. Sometimes people rent out condos that include refrigerator, stove, linens, silverware, everything you basically need except your toothbrush and some clothes for a cheaper than hotel price.
