Hi,
We are going to Hawaii and then stopping in San Fran on the way back. I think the hotel we are staying at is called the Triton. My brother recomended it. It has a more modern feel to it.

I love the Ritz Carlton in the Nob Hill section of SF - there's a trolley line right outside and it 's only a couple of blocks from chinatown.
The St. Regis is also really nice. My sister stays at the Mandarin Oriental all the time for work which she loves, but it's in the financial district, not in a real touristy area.
How long are you planning on staying in SF?

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon
That's really nice. They have really beautiful hotels there, so really whatever one you choose, you'll be fine! There are definitely some less expensive hotels there too that looked really nice when we went past them....I remember there was a best western right near Fisherman's Wharf that looked really nice.

We went to Honolulu, Kuaui and Maui. We stayed at the Hyatt everywhere. If I were to do it all over again I would skip Honolulu, it's just a big city with lots of 5th Ave type shopping. Also, if you are willing to spend the extra money I would have stayed at the Four Seasons in Maui. Our travel agent told us it was very comparable to the Hyatt and not worth the extra money so we listened to her. Boy did we regret it when we went to visit the Four Seasons, there was NO COMPARISON. The Hyatt in Kuaui was unbelievable, definitely a luxury resort. Let me know if you have any questions

Did you rent cars in either or both? Is it necessary?

We rented a car everyplace but Honolulu, it was definitely necessary, otherwise you are stuck on the resort and there is so much to see and do outside of the resort area

I think one of the reasons I like Oahu is that we rented a car so we weren't stuck just in Waikiki or the areas the bus goes to. We drove all around the island and spent some time up on the north shore - it's really just Waikiki/Honolulu that is so built up - the rest of the island is really nice. I would suggest renting a car on all the islands.

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon
I went to Hawaii last year to visit a friend who was living there. I was on Oahu and Kauai. I agree that honolulu is not the most amazing place in Hawaii as it is just a city, but I think its a good place to stay for the night. If you do your research, there are a lot of places to go while on Oahu so don't just stay at your resort... explore and definitely go off the beaten path. one thing I would recommend skipping is Waikiki Beach... its like the jersey shore of Hawaii.
