Hawaiin honeymoon

Anyone stoping in San Francisco? Where are you staying? We need to get a move on.

I think FH said the flight would have a stopover in AZ. We didn't book anything except FFIL's timeshares (Lihu'e, Kauai and Lahaina, Maui). We need to get a move on this too. Including getting passports!

Passport?

We are also staying at timeshares and one of them still has not opened up. I think we are going to need to chose another island

Yes, passports are required for Hawaii now.

Where did you learn that?

Can't be required for travel to HI - it's a state - not a separate country.

That's what I thought.

It says page not found

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon

I am trying to fix the link... just do Google searches. I put 'passport required for hawaii' in the search

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon

It says:

'Passports are not required for U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from Hawaii or a U.S. territory, including Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands'

It is against the constitution to require US citizens to use passports to enter into another US state or territory. Don't stress over getting a passport for your HM if you are not leaving the country.

It would be the same as the government requiring a passport to go to New Jersey - they can't do it.

ETA: see this link from the US Department of State and then click 'tip for domestic travelers'

passport

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon

Hmm... all along I thought we needed one because Hawaii and Alaska are always excluded from a lot. Like sweepstakes, etc... so I thought that since you'd have to fly out of the '48 states', a passport would be needed.... sorry to confuse you ladies. I feel like an idiot

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon

At least it's one less thing you need to do.

Don't apologize - look at it this way, it's one less thing you have to worry about before the wedding!!! I would get a passport thought since you'll soon need one even for Mexico or Canada.

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon

FH just told me that Travel Tom told him we'd need one though.

Re: Hawaiin honeymoon

Trust me - you don't. Check on the Dept of State website. It is illegal for the US to require it's citizens to use a passport to enter another US state or territory.

The only way you would need a passport to go to Hawaii is if you had a layover it Mexico or Canada.

We are trying to figure out if we are going to stop too. 11 hours is a LONG time on a plane...

My travel agent from Liberty Travel said we didn't need one. I hope she is right because I can't get one in 39 days!!!!!!
