I feel your pain. I went dress shopping today also and the dress I liked was like 5x my budget. I didnt even entertain the idea of maybe springing for it. I'm just going to keep on looking. You'll find something that will be in your budget and that you love.

try to negotiate... my firend lied and went to a bridal shop and said that saw a dress somewhere for a certain price (she said it was less) and the 2nd store adjusted the price and went lower. she saved 1500!!!
