ok i am going to be put under fh's plan. Now do i have to wait until we receive our certificate in the mail after the wedding to be put under his plan or can it go into effect right after our wedding?
also what do they ask for, what do i need to do and what does he need to do.
I told FH to ask at work but he is hardly at the office so i have to wait for him to find out.
any info would be appreciated. Seems like since i got paid in april for my last day my insurance ends now instead of may which is when its my last day. The cobra is $500 a month, now i would only need it for a month or so but $500 is not worth it. If i go for a doctors visit and pay out of pocket it will be less than that ya know

i believe it depends on the plan. i know at fh's job the second we say i do i'm covered. but i will be keeping my insurance for the entire month of july just in case.

we had to wait until we had our marriage cert. once we did, i was added to his plan, retroactive to our wedding date. so although i was added on march first, it was effective as of 2/17. i also cancelled mine (had to wait for the marriage cert), and it was cancelled as of 2/17.

You will be covered the date of your marriage - even though you wont actually get your card and stuff right away. I doubt they will process paperwork until they get a copy of your marriage cert.

Ok I put DH on my plan. I went to personnel and filled out a form and gave them a photocopy of my marriage license. I had to wait for the marriage license BUT they make it effective back to the 'date of the event' so I had to pay a little more for my first pay cycle.
I am not sure if it depends on the company though

Well i thought i had it all worked out, my last day is in may so i just said ok great ill still be covered through may and by the end of may or beginning of june ill be under fh's plan. Well my job decided to pay me last day in april which is today even for the days i am working in may.

i didnt cancel mine, wish i still had it through may
i really wouldnt even be that worried right now but uhmmm im afraid with my foot and having to go back to the doctor

so fh would have to give them whatever they need and let them know our date so it can go through then i guess

oh fh's brother works in the office, i can ask him to bring home a form for us to fill out. Thank you
depending on the company, it could be effective the 1st of the month following your wedding date instead of your actual wedding date (happened to me when i went on dh's insurance), si just have your dh call to ask how it works - he doesn't have to go in, just call. hth!

i know i am trying to figure this out right now
oh and yes, if you are working in may, you should be covered at least until your last day there and possibly to the end of the month depending on the plan etc.

Dave is covered under my insurance....
He (prior to our marriage) was covered under the 'domestic partner' clause. Once we got married, he was changed to husband. The insurance company didn't ask for anything. They just changed his status.

Whatever date is on your marriage liscense (date your getting married) will be the date they will make it active but you have to wait till you get it in the mail to send them a copy. For example I wasn't active on DH's until like 4/1 but it was back dated to 2/29 so anything in between that time you can put a claim in for for them to reimburse you. Thats how i think most of them work

I was on DH's as a domestic partner but they still needed the marriage liscense to change it thats strange they didn't ask for anything!
