Health Issue-Fibroids

Hi Mommies or Mommies to be,

I am not married yet but will be in the near future (feb 04) We are thinking of maybe having a honeymoon baby. maybe. We've been dating six years so we both want kids sooner than later.

My problem is is that I recently went to the OB/GYN just for my annual and also, wanted to do a follow up on my fibroids ( I found out last year that I had them) Well, they did two sonograms and noticed that since last year I have multiple fibroids. The good thing is is that the fibroids are not located in the cavity of the uterus which means I won't have problems conceiving. However, the problem is is that they are located on the walls which means I will have high risk pregnancy either way. The Dr. related that fibroids double in size. I have two that she is concerned about.

I was so upset with my Doctor because she is a OBGYN and couldn't answer any of my questions! Hello, I know I am not the only person who has fibroids! I asked about removal or taking a risk and having a high risk pregancy. Her replies were....'welll uhh....uhh....welll.' I will be seeking a new doctor because fibroids are common and she should of been able to give me feedback! I don't plan on removing them because of scar tissue. Do anyone have fibroids and if so, were you able to conceive without a problem.

Re: Health Issue-Fibroids

One of my close friends had fibroids and is a happy mother of 2 She didn't have trouble conceiving but she did have to have c-sections because of them. She didn't mind at all, in fact she is telling me I should just get a c-section. I think getting a new OBGYN is a smart idea! I don't know where you are located but I love the practice that I go to They are in Bethpage FM me if you would like any info Don't worry I'm sure you will be AOK (BTW one of her fibroids was the size of a grapefruit )

Thank you for the info! It gives us some hope! I am going to try for several months and If I can't conceive or have a successful pregancy then I will consider removing them. Thanks again. As for the specialist, my friend who's husband is a Doctor is referring me. Thank you though

Re: Health Issue-Fibroids

My sister just went thru this a few weeks ago. She had 3 fibroids removed, and they were not able to tell she had three unitl she had laporsocopy surgery to remove them. She had 1 in her uterus, and 2 pressing on her uterus. She has been having trouble conceiving because of this. They did not know about the other 2 becuase you do not get to see inside until laproscopy surgery is done. It turns out she went for all the testing and they were able to find 1, but when they went in and saw the other 2 they removed them. The doctor- actually a reproductive endocrinolgist told her they can do all the testing but the best is the laproscopay , he called it the gold star of all the things out there to see what is going on in there. In fact my sister had 1 miscarriage and this is what caused it, the 2 fibroids pressing on her uterus. They told her she now will conceive.

Keep me posted. I guess for your sister that was the best decision to get them removed. Especially, because she miscarried. I am hoping that I don't have to go that route but If need be I will. If we find it unsuccessful to carry, then we will opt for removal. It sounds as though your sister had 2 of her fibroids in the same location as mine (2 pressing on my uterus) Best of Luck to your sis and bil. My prayers are with your sister.
