HEALTH NUT BRIDES NEED HELP FAST....

Ok I need help from all you health nuts. I'm on my way to the supermarket and i need help with a few things on my list.
Is it ok to eat the nutri grain waffles from eggo? If so, what kind of syrup can i use? Is maple ok?

I want to buy some tuna fish. Which brand is better and should i get it in water or oil?

Mayonaise- Can I eat it or not? If I can, what kind?

Eggs- Brown or white?

Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers or Healthy choice frozen meals, which one is better?

What is a good sweetner? Equal, splenda etc..?

I am really trying so hard to stick to healthy eating as well as maintaining my workouts but i get so overwhelmed with all this stuff. I am a fast food fanatic but I have been doing really good for the past month but i know i'm not quite there yet as you could see by my list of questions above.
Any help would be great.

TIA

Probably too late but...

Nutrigrain is definitely better than the regular. What ever product you buy it should say WHOLE grain. The best is Van's, they are gluten free, taste great and are easier to digest than Eggo. Maple syrup is good, one of the better sweetners. If you are trying to cut out maple syrup, then get fresh or frozen berries, heat some up in a pan on the stove or nuke them with a little bit of maple syrup and water. Now you have something sweet to pt on waffles, pancakes or french toast without a lot of fake sugar.

Tuna - Use water, you'll be adding more fat with the mayo. Light mayo is good. If you really want to take it to the extreme you can try a product called Vegenaise. basically mayo made from soybean. Definitely not as good as Helmann's. I haven't fully given up on Helmann's so I mix them together.

Eggs - no scientific evidence if brown or white are better. If you can afford and have a choice get those higher in Omega 3s.

Frozen meals are great because they are easy and convenient. Not really the most healthy but they do watch the calories nicely. Compare sodium levels and MSG content.

Foods a tough place for me too. I found the bet thing is to add foods to my diet. Over time the not so healthy stuff will not be as appealing and you'll be craving healthier choices. I know, it's a lot of mental work.

and really none of those sweeteners are good. They all have that aspartame crap in it.

I recently found a kickass sweetener that isn't any calories and has none of that **** in it, it's called ZSweet.

Read the ingredients list on the waffles. If the first ingredient says 'processed or refined grains/flour', this is not whole grain. Maple syrup is ok but make sure it is real maple, not the fake crap that is basically sugar. DO NOT use sugar free syrup.

I want to buy some tuna fish. Which brand is better and should i get it in water or oil?

If it is in OLIVE OIL, then get it in oil bc olive oil is a monounsaturated fat aka a 'good' fat. If it's in vegetable oil, get in water.

Mayonaise- Can I eat it or not? If I can, what kind?

Low fat.

Eggs- Brown or white?

Doesnt matter.

Lean Cuisine, Weight Watchers or Healthy choice frozen meals, which one is better?

Never eat any of these. Super high in sodium and cholesterol. Have things on the ingredient list that are completely filled with chemicals. If you cant pronounce it, dont eat it.

What is a good sweetner? Equal, splenda etc..?

Honey, regular sugar, or stevia. Never eat any artificial sweeteners. Your body interprets them exactly as your body interprets regular sugar, except that sugar is natural and artificial sweeteners are chemical based. Also, honey has antibiotic qualities and has antioxidants. Stevia comes from a natural plant.

Most frozen entrees are very high in sodium....

If you're trying to lose weight, honestly none of those are really good options except the tuna in water because it is a lean protein and the water doesn't add any fat. If you want to add flavor to items, use salsa (extremely low in calories and has tons of flavor), mustard, hummus, or fresh spices. Some dried spices have added salt so watch out. If you feel like you must add mayo use as low fat as possible. Ketchup and bbq sauce have a lot of sugar so watch out too.

When you cook, use a nonstick pan so you don't need to add any fat when you cook or a use a grill or even the foreman grill.

Whatever breads you buy (like the eggo waffles) make sure the first ingredient is WHOLE WHEAT not enriched whole wheat.

This article has the best healthy and best tasting foods from the supermarket. It's very helpful:
http://www.womenshealthmag.com/nutrition/premium-packaged-foods

If you are looking to lose weight, you should cut out as much sugar/sweateners as possible. Here are some good meal options and try to incorporate as many fruits and vegetables as possible:

Breakfast:
Egg whites cooked with pam spray (not butter) add veggies like peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc
fat free low sugar yogurt
whole wheat/grain cereal with skim milk (watch your serving sizes!! Most people actually eat 2 servings when they pour a bowl)
cottage cheese with fruit
oatmeal (not those flavored kinds... they are loaded with sugar)
whole wheat toast with low sugar jelly

Lunch:
Tuna in water (watch your serving sizes too. Most cans actually have 2.5-3 servings in 1 can)
salad with no fat dressing and a protein (hard boiled egg, grilled chicken, black beans)
grilled salmon
grilled chicken on a whole wheat wrap and hummus (look at the calorie count for the wrap. some can have 200 calories for 1 wrap...that is way too high)
white bean and chicken salad (with tomato, onion, and garlic)
grilled veggies (eggplant, squash, peppers, onions, etc) on a whole wheat wrap
baby spinach salad with grilled chicken

Dinner:
Grilled chicken patty with a side salad
Grilled chicken with a sweet potato
Grilled fish and whole wheat couscous
Turkey meatballs (perdue makes some good ones) in low sugar tomato sauce... do not add pasta but if you do, use whole wheat
Grilled chicken with black beans, peppers, onions, and salsa with brown rice (watch your serving size on the brown rice)
Quinoa with salmon, tomatoes, bell peppers, and cucumber with lemon juice

Snacks
fruit like apples (good for fiber), grapefruit, orange, pear, banana, blueberries
baby carrots with hummus
Almonds but watch the amount that you eat and make sure they aren't salted

Be sure to avoid 'fake' health food like smoothies (tons of sugar!) and granola and pay attention to serving sizes. They are a lot smaller than you think.

It is also really important to EXERCISE!!! Weight Watchers is really good and realistic to follow and incorporate into your real life for the long haul. You don't have to join but igoogle.com has a widget that you add that will tell you how many points different items are if you enter the nutritional information. Also http://www.fatsecret.com helps you track what you eat and how much you work out. It also gives you different recipes and has a message board.

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. I love talking about healthy eating. I take sooo much time to go food shopping because I am always looking at labels and comparing. My fiance won't even go with me lol.

Re: HEALTH NUT BRIDES NEED HELP FAST....

Wowwwww!!!! That is a lot of information LOL but i so appreciate it. I didn't realize a lot of things but i am really open to this. I'm not just trying to lose weight for my wedding but i took my wedding as an opportunity to change my lifestyle and my family's as well. There's too much junk out there and just living in the city alone will contaminate your body so I want to try my best to eat right and exercise to keep myself as healthy as possible on that end. There are a few habits i have to brak first before i could fully commit myself but i thonk i'm on the right track.

So once again ladies thank you so much for your help.

Re: HEALTH NUT BRIDES NEED HELP FAST....

Yea I'm sorry for all that information!! It's probably overwhelming.

I lost 34 pounds 6 years ago and have kept it off. I read a lot of stuff on healthy eating and I work out a lot. It's a change of lifestyle and it is hard to make a change to habits you've had for so long but it's so worth it. You'll feel so good. Now when I don't work out or if I eat junk, I feel different.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. Some good reads are the book 'Eat This, Not That' , check out restaurant nutrition info before you go on their website, and women's health magazine is AMAZING!! Their website has pretty much everything that is in the magazine anyway.
