I've been having an argument with my mom for the past 15 minutes about favors for the wedding. She asked me to go to you ladies to settle the dispute. Do the wedding favors get put on the guests tables before the wedding begins or do you hand them to each guest as they leave or hand you envelope. Mom says the latter is proper but I think she's thinking back to her wedding 35 years ago!!!

Re: Heated debate with mother
I am putting mine on the tables, although my mother also suggested handing them out individually.
I have never been to a wedding where they hand them out.

Re: Heated debate with mother
We had ours on the table. I don't know if it was proper etitiquette or not. The reception hall did it for us. People were handing us envelopes all night including the cocktail hour. I couldn't possibly run and get a favor for each guest from the beginning to the end of the night.

I've seen it done both ways - I think it depends on the type of favor and the size of it.

Thanks girls - I knew I was right
We're giving out a few different favors and mom is ordering these frosted clear bags with our names and wedding date on them so the guests will have something to put all the stuff in. I agree that it would be way to complicated to hand all this stuff out.
Mom caved in and agreed to do it my way

Re: Heated debate with mother
Alvatorre, this is the same question my family brought up. The way I see it not matter how you do it people will find a way to steal a favor if they want to.
If you hand them out to people ,and someone leaves it on the table to get up a dance someone can take it, if you put it on the table someone can take it too. I thought about it too. I want mine on the table it will look nice.

Mine are going on the table. I personally have never been to a wedding where they are handed out at the end of the night...I've seen that done at Sweet Sixteens though

Re: Heated debate with mother
at my sisters wedding they handed them out... like a hour before the end.. it was very discoordinated looking..
ive never heard of people giving thm when the people give the couple their gift, it might would look like you must give a gift to get a favor
all other weddings(aside from sisters) ive been to they are already at the table. it adds to the decoration, plus then someone doesnt have to go runing around with them.. and what if the person forgets to give them out...

Re: Heated debate with mother
YOU ARE BOTH RIGHT! But since it's YOUR wedding you get to choose I am going to have them on the table. You will always get people who take 2 and others who take none. It's the thought that matters.
