My dress was a satin ballgown and I had an extra full slip(the biggest one they made) and extra tulle in the dress, with a very long train. The only time it felt heavy was for about 15 minutes after it was bustled when all the weight was put onto my waist. But that didnt last long at all. I absolutely loved my dress and wouldnt have changed it for the world. I left it on until 4am and didnt want to take it off then. I was able to dance and move around, although obviously it was a little different with a big poufy dress.

Re: Heavy dresses?
My dress is kind of heavy for someone as small as I am......and I added length to the train. If the dress is the one you love you will manage the weight

Re: Heavy dresses?
I wore a ballgown...it was heavier than a regular dress for sure but was not uncomfortable...I just got hot with the slip and all

Re: Heavy dresses?
My dress weighs a ton, even though it's an A line, and it's a July wedding, but its so beautiful I wouldn't want any other dress no matter how light. It's only a day and I'm always cold anyway. I agree that brides dresses are generally heavy. I'm sure you'll be so excited to wear it that you'll forget how much it weighs. They aren't meant to be the most comfortable dresses and I've never seen a bride just sit there at her wedding.

Re: Heavy dresses?
I would ask N.Y.Bride....she had the ballgowniest of ballgowns! Really gorgeous...but it had to be heavy. But correct me if I'm wrong!

Re: Heavy dresses?
My suggestion would be to ask about a hoop crinoline instead of the tulle crinolines. During my fitting it took a ton of weight off the dress. It might help a little.

Re: Heavy dresses?
It's also true what others were saying that fabric type can really contribute to the weight.
the first ballgown I tried on was SO cumbersome and heavy, I felt like someone strapped a king-sized comforter around my waist. I could hardly walk!!!
My dress is also a ballgown, but a light material. Not bad at all! (Also wearing a hoop slip....)

Re: Heavy dresses?
When I tried on dresses, mostly princess style I did not notice the weight of the gowns. IDK maybe it was due to my adrenaline rush or maybe it was just because of these guns I have

Re: Heavy dresses?
I wore a ballgown dress and it was a little uncomfortable by the very end of the night (like 3am!) but I danced all night and had a great time..it was not a problem!

Re: Heavy dresses?
Thanks everyone for your posts!!!!! I really appreciate the feedback, and I am DEFINITELY going to stick to princess ball gown dress. I never imagined myself to be one to want the BIG gown, but now I am so drawn them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, the hoop crinoline skirt sounds like a way to get rid of some of the bulkiness. I really want to dance and enjoy it all, but I guess if it's THE dress it won't matter how much it weighs...I will make it work.
I have been searching EVERYWHERE for the dress, and maybe am lucky that I have found three dresses I really like.. At least I am not scared of the gown weight anymore!! One problem solved! Now if I can just make up my mind....THANKS AGAIN, LIW BRIDES!!!
