HELLPPP!! SOOOOOO TORN between the fox hollow somerly and the new larkfield manor!!

Hello!

Soon to be bride on Fri June 19 2015, as SOON as we can PICK a place :(!!!

We are so torn on which to pick, its such a hard decision.

The Somerly is more expensive by about $12 a head but at this point price isnt the main factor. The fox hollow doesn't do a tradition food tasting and I have heard so many mixed reviews about their food being not so great I'm confused. We ate at the fox hollows restaurant rose hunt and we werent impressed. They didnt offer what was on our wedding menue but we ordered chicken and steak as a generic point and it was not that great compared to what we are used to. They own insignia steak house and their steak is great but this was not even close to that quality. The price however from both restaurants was not the same as his is probably why. The steak at insignia is much more money then the steak price of the rose hunt. But all in all at fox hollow, the food was OK but justtttt OK. Butttt this place is more our style in decor at atmosphere. It is defineitly contemporary and loungey, which we love and have yet to find anywhere else.

The larkfield I hear the food is great but isnt as much space or private and doesnt have as much as a wow factor to us when it comes to the Decor of the place. We are more modern and contemporary and the larkfield is more tuscan style, but it is all brand new! I havent had a tasting here yet but I have yet to hear anything bad about the food from personal friends and family. They wont let us do a tasting until a deposit is down. I am assuming the food will be much better here from what I hear though.

We went to so many other places and cant find anything to compares to these two as they are both new, close by and more in our price range around 100-120 a head.

I feel like Im forced to choose between really good food and my style and atmosphere of a place, where I will feel most comfortable.
So here I ask and beg for help! lol GIRLS PLEASE HELP ME with ANY input you have. IT can be positive or neg about these spots I wont take offense, just as long as it is honest ;)

Thanks girls!!

I personally haven't been to either but my best suggestion is make a list for each and which ever venue meets most of your needs I would choose. I also recommend checking out Stonebridge from lessings iy sounds like that may appeal to you. Also since you like insignia they ate a lounge feel and do weddings!! :) it is stressful but you have to pick a place where you don't have second thought and meets what your looking for. Also in terms of decor you can add a lot in a place to make it your style! :)

I know this is probably what you don't want to hear but I would keep looking. I'm sure there is place where you can get the best of both worlds.

As for the venues that you mentioned I have only been to Larkfield. The food was really good but like you mentioned it is very Tuscan which is not my style. I felt like I was in Italy at EPCOT. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Disney, I go every year sometimes twice a year but Larkfield felt almost staged (if that makes any sense). However, it is very pretty and very new. Good luck!

I would keep looking.. you still have some time. Make a list of other venues and check them out writing down pros and cons of each one. You don't have to decide between two!

I am a big fan of pro/con lists. Often times the answer jumps out at me once I have everything on paper in front of me. I would say you need to decide what the most important aspect of a venue is for you and FH. If its food I would not book with Fox Hollow. I have been to 5 weddings there (and have another one coming up in November) and in all honesty the food is not good. I have never been impressed. Don't have any experience with Larkfield so I can't weigh in on that. It sounds like the other girls may be right and you should keep looking, especially since you are looking at June 2015 so you still have plenty of time.

I've never been to Larkfield, but I loved the Somerley. I did find that room to be outrageously priced (def way above the price range you listed above).

Have you checked out Chateau Briand? Very modern and really beautiful.

HELLPPP!! SOOOOOO TORN between the fox hollow somerly and the new larkfield manor!! - Long Island Weddings

Thanks so much girls!! I feel like I looked at all the other places here on Long island and looks wise we can find anything that looks modern and has a lounge area like the fox hollow. Anyone maybe have a suggestion of a modern venue? I AGREE LARLYNN!!!!! We did check out the Cheateau Briand but they have an event on Tuesdays during the summer called 'body english' and since we've been here many times for this event my Fiancé doesn't want to do a wedding here. All of our friends have been here for this event too multiple times and he feels it took away from a wedding spot for us unfortunately :( Its a shame because I LOVE the outside area!!

Things we love about the fox hollow are:
MOST IMPORTANT NO RUGS!! LOL I know it sounds silly but I HATE RUGS :/ just a personal taste
1. they will have a new spot for an outside ceremony
2. the cocktail room downstairs is 'loungey' and decorated so nice and modern, had a cool false fireplace with all candles in it
3. The somerly room is GORGEOUS, modern , and has ample light! Huge skylights, an area to go smoke or get fresh air right off your room with a little terrace, a huge fireplace we can sit in front of that looks great and draws attention to where we will be sitting, French doors all around that also let light in
4. a spacious bridal suite
5. a hotel next door that is very convenient.
6. its private with your own valet and lobby and bathrooms, although his is not the most important to us is not a must but for sure a plus
7. a lighting package that is built into the room to make the dance floor very clubby without having wires or equipment to make this happen (is very clean looking)

These are things I feel I haven't found anywhere else.

The fox gave us a price of 140 for a june friday thats already with the 20% service fee included, without that already added in its around $116 a head so thats within out budget then plus 20% plus tax.

Maybe with my picky decor standards I wont be able to find a place that has both. Im kind of discouraged and its making me so upset.

I'm biased. I booked the fox hollow somerley and I haven't heard anything bad about the food there. My parents and bridesmaid went to a wedding there and liked the food.

We got the pre-construction price so we didn't pay outrageously for it

HELLPPP!! SOOOOOO TORN between the fox hollow somerly and the new larkfield manor!! - Long Island Weddings

Don't let it upset you. I felt the same way and became so discouraged too. We looked at soooo many places. I really liked the somerely for all the reasons you described but I was hesitant on booking. Some of the things I personally didn't like we're that (at the time we went) there was no outdoor ceremony spot and we had to get married in the main room. We wanted a summer wedding so no outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour was kinda a bummer. I also loved the hotel but the rates are realllllly high and I couldn't justify asking guests to stay there so then I would of had to book an additional hotel and get a shuttle and all that stuff. They only had 2 dates open for sat in August so the BM was really pushing us to book. We kept looking at other places and comparing them but like you said, I loved the modern feel. Anyways, we went out one last time and went to our current venue and absolutely loved it! It sounds cheesey but as soon as went in we both just new. We went in the car to leave and looked at each other and said 'let's book it!' I agree with the other girls. You have time. Keep looking. You'll either love FOx hollow even more or find something you love better. Good luck!

Ps. The food at FH was ok. Went to a wedding in the winter garden room but that was like 6 years ago. Never been to Larkfield but did go check it out pre construction. I, too, liked that everything would be brand new but my fiancé hated the Tuscan look so it was not happening.

I have never been to Fox Hollow, however was in love with Larkfield and their staff. I was torn between them and Lombardi's on the Bay but view was very important to us so we went with Lombardi's however, the staff at Larkfield is amazing and they were so helpful and respectful to all of my wishes even though I did not book with them, they allowed me in on 3 different occassions. You can do a tasting after your deposit and if you are not happy with the food they will refund you 100%! Good luck!!

HELLPPP!! SOOOOOO TORN between the fox hollow somerly and the new larkfield manor!! - Long Island Weddings

Thanks girl!!!

I guess I will keep at it then.

Maybe you girls have some suggestions.

I went to:

The larkfield
the inn- too pricey and not contemporary

swan club- just not our taste

crest hollow- beautiful! but we Didnt like that you can see the other venues going on, its not as private as we would like, although we dont mind sharing with other weddings ;) just a bit more separation we would like

woodbury country club- outside was great! Didnt like anything else about it, the contemporary room was downstairs and had a basement feel to us

Jericho terrace- MY FIANCE LOVED IT!! me not so much, food was great they gave us a tasting on the spot, but the bridal suit and lobby and cocktail hour was outdated and I didnt feel comfortable, but what a GREAT price for what you get!!

Sandcastle- so pretty! out of our budget! lol

chateau Briand- we have been there so many times for their tuesday events it kind of killed the space for a wedding for us :( too bad its contemporary and pretty. But they also own fox hollow and hear mixed reviews on the food, which is the same issue as the fox hollow

lake success country club- not for us a a wedding venue but would be great for a sweet 16 or engagement party- plus you have to hire everything to be source in such as valet- bathroom attendants etc and will get pricey

floral terrace- our friends are getting married there right before us and do not want to repeat

was thinking to go see the allegria hotel in long beach but I think they may be out of price range and they few reviews they do have are not so great but does look contemporary.

Kim24 the east wind doesnt look contemporary and traditional but thanks for the suggestion :) I really appreciate it

That's a great price for the Somerley! We were quoted more than your total WITHOUT tax and service for a Saturday in December.

I don't think the Metropolitan in Glen Cove has carpeting. It's relatively modern and 1 event at a time, though I think it only holds like 220. It has a cool bi-level ballroom and the woman we met with there was really nice.

I was just going to suggest the Metropolitan. I had a friend who just got married and the Metropolitan was very high on her list because of how modern it was. Also have you thought about a hotel wedding. Recently I stayed at the Hyatt and they have a modern ballroom. However, it does have carpeting but it's very modern. Here is a picture.

I was going to suggest the Allegria. It's super modern and gorgeous. Fh and i loved it and probably would have booked there if the ballroom was big enough (they say it holds 225 but we thought anything over 180 would be cramped). I believe they were $150++ and up but we only got Saturday night quotes. If you wanted a Friday I am sure you can get it for cheaper. We still used them as our hotel block and our bridal suite was amazing, after party was great, and we did our reveal there as well before heading to Bridgeview. Everything was great!

Re: HELLPPP!! SOOOOOO TORN between the fox hollow somerly and the new larkfield manor!!

The Metropolitan does have carpets and when I went to look at it the carpets were filthy, that was one of the main turn offs for me. The Allegria is definitely contemporary but in March they quoted me $165 plus tax, and I heard they got a new chef who was just ok. Keep looking, explore places you didn't think you would like. I was so discouraged after looking at a bunch of places and I was 2 steps in Bridgeview and said ok I'm done this is it, I completely fell in love.

larkfield I hear the food is great-- TRUE it's sooo good.

but isnt as much space or private -- since when is fox hollow private? it's a factory over there. our vendors told us they dont like working there. unless outside pictures arent important to you?

tastings at larfkield- you put down the deposit, but can get it back for up to a month (well actually suffolk county law gives you MUCH longer) so just schedule your tasting early !!

just dont have your ceremony there.
