Re: HELP!!!
we bought our cat a little scratching mat made by fat cat. he loves it! before that he scratched the couch all the time. we bought him scratching posts, but he had no interest in them. now that he has this scratching pad, he won't scratch anything else! it's great! you should be able to find it at any pet store.

You obviously aren't a cat person! PLEASE do not advise people on subjects you know nothing about. Declawing a cat is major surgery and very painful to the cat.
You should put Soft Paws on your cat. They are little plastic covers that go over their nails so that the nails do not catch on fabric. You can buy them online at www.softpaws.com or you get usually get them at Petsmart. They are easy to apply, but if you aren't comfortable doing it, most vets and groomers will do it for a small fee.

Re: HELP!!!
Also we got our cat a cardboard scratching box that you put catnip on and he LOVES it. It gets kinda messy because they rip the cardboard in little pieces, but it is all he scratches now.

Re: HELP!!!
My vet suggested double stick tape. Also Regi suggested that too.
I haven't tried it yet, but I will. After a while the cat gets annoyed at being stuck to tape and scratches something else. That's when you need a fun scratching post.
I agree, I would never de-claw my kitties.

All my cats were declawed and they lived a happy, fun filled life. Please don't act like that is such a bad thing to do. To each his own, right.

Re: HELP!!!
I tried the double sided tape once and it didn't work for my little angel. She ended up trying to chew on it rather than running from it!
Honestly, I trim my cat's claws every week so they are not as sharp. Then I am big on the squirt water bottle when she goes for the couches! It's unfortunately something I have come to live with!
