Help?

Help?

Okay, Justin and I just got engaged this past weekend, but we have no idea when to do things. My mom didn't have a real wedding, nor did his mother. So when do we go for engagment pictures? When do we do engagment announcements? When do I start planning a wedding? Where do I look for good photographer for the photos? Ahhh I don't know where to start! Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations and welcome!!

Everyone is different in how they start planning their wedding. I would say the best thing to do is if you want to send out engagement announcement cards you can start doing that but then try and figure out when you want your wedding (month/year) and start looking at halls and stuff. Once you start to get into the planning phase it'll all come rather easy.

And of course everyone on these boards are sooooo helpful and nice they help with everything and are great at recommending vendors so don't be afraid to ask for help!!

Good Luck!!!

Well you certainly came to the right place! Congratulations on your engagement. The first thing that I would recommend is to create a budget and get an approximate guest list. Then go and book the church and/or reception hall. Everything else that you do will depend on the date that you pick.

Good luck!

First, congratulations on your engagement!!!!!!!! This is such an exciting time in your lives!!!!!!!!!

This website is super helpful!! At the top of the screen click on the link that says 'My Wedding'. Then click on 'Wedding Timeline'. There's a complete list of just about everything you can think of that goes into planning a wedding and when you should do each step. Of course, nothing is written in stone!! There are things you can opt out of doing, or you can do things a little out of sequence if that works better for you. But it offers a wonderful guide to get you started so I hope it helps!!

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!!

CONGRATS and welcome!

You can really start planning the wedding right away if you like! On LI it's usually safe to start 12-18 months before your date, but you can easily plan in less time than that.

Most girls typically start by determining their budget and picking a day or a range of days (i.e. fall, October, etc ...). Certain days and seasons are more expensive than others, so you need to figure that out first before you start booking a June or September Saturday night.

You're supposed to set the date with your church / synagogue / temple first, but a lot of people don't do that anymore. I searched for halls first, found a few weekends that they were available, then went to my church - picked a day, and then called to confirm with the hall.

Engagement pictures are really up to you. I thought you were supposed to take them right away, but my photographer said it's common to do them a few months before the wedding, but you can do them now if you want.

Photographer - I would use the search function on this site, and browse the brides reviews.

It's a lot of fun if you take things easy and don't get too wrapped up in the craziness of it all!

Alright, yea we already came up with a date, November 1st, 2008, and a black and white theme but no formal, it'll be casual formal. flowers are going to be orange, yellow and red ... we're going towards the bellport country club, but we'll see where we end up... i just wasn't sure on when to start ... but thank you to all you, now i have an idea!
