Re: Step monster question-Help!

Hey Jenn!!
So sorry to hear about your father-I hope he'll have a quick and easy recovery!
Are there any other women in your family who could talk to her, like an aunt or even your mom?
If not and she shows up looking the way you're dreading, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's her that is going to look foolish-not you!
Try not to stress and one of my mantras is 'Avoid toxic people!'-she sounds very unreasonable!
I'm sure some of the other girls will have great suggestions!

Re: Step monster question-Help!

wow - this is VERY difficult. (my interest is peaked as well...wonder who this monster is? )

I will tell you that my FH mother used to date this man. His daughter got married, and the daughter's real mom was a typical 'mom' type. I LOVE my fMIL, but when she arrived at that wedding I was shocked. And so was the bride. She wore this slinky slit up to there black dress with her hair slicked back and stilettos. It was really over the top She is a very classy woman - did NOT look like 'hooker' but I know the bride was upset that she didn't keep it toned down in honor of the mother of the bride.

I think the only thing you can do is A)offer to go shopping with her - girls day out kind of thing B) mention to her how excited you are about the formality of the affair or C)let her do what she wants and know that everybody will know here was nothing you could do! Good luck and keep us updated!

Re: Step monster question-Help!

Jenn, 1st off I hope all is well with your Dad. Your step-monster sounds liks a real doozey... God knows you don't need this stress right now...My future mother-in-law is the same way though. She knows just how to get under your skin. What's so comical is that she thinks she has the body of a 20-year old and was hoping to wear a tight clingy dress to our wedding. She originally showed me pictures of the dress she wanted to get. To try and save myself and more importantly, my future hubby any embarassment, I volunteered myself to go with her to find her perfect dress. We went last week and let me tell you EVERY dress she tried on was ridiculous... She loved them all, especially the one that had a circle cut out for the stomach!!! I kindly said, that is not nearly classy enough for her, that she needed something that would make her shine, like a total picture of elegance and sophistication... she bought it, and the saleswoman was in full agreement with me on this too (which helped) and she ended up trying on more conservative dresses. We actually found one that was very classy and elegant, a perfect dress for her. I told my hubby-to-be that he owes me HUGE for this one. It was a long day, but well worth every minute of it. If your step-monster won't even think about you going with her to look at dresses, or you couldn't even think about spending another moment with her, perhaps you could find pictures from some of the awards shows (Oscars, Emmys, etc...) and have pictures of some of the actresses laying around and maybe she'll get an idea of what's apporopriate. (Just make sure you hide the picture of Bjork!) Good luck to you and let me know how it turns out.

Re: Step monster question-Help!

tell your stepmother that you would like to go with her for her gown to make sure that it will compliment what the other mothers are wearing. She needs to wear the same length, not the same colors etc... tell her that you can look sexy without looking like a streetwalker or word it nicer.
If you cannot handle her at all then let her embarrass herself. Your real Mom will be the one with class and grace.

Amen sista-friend! That's it in a nut shell! No matter what the step-monster wears, she will be just that a monster. Her Mom will look like an angel.
