OK rant and help! As many of you know I am half jewish, half catholic, fh is jewish. My fam didnt care which way we went as far as officiant, (i was named in the jewish religion so I could be married by a rabbi) his family wanted rabbi (no justice of peace)...we agreed.
we purposely picked SUNDAY to get married because Friday would have to be before sundown and saturday after sundown..i wanted an outdoor wedding, so i didnt want to worry about that.
in addition I personally didnt want a friday or sunday wedding cause of my friends coming out of state
saturdays we also didnt have enough people, im doing a smaller sized wedding (about 120)
sunday of a holiday seemed like the best option...
so we picked Sunday Memorial day weekend(
I booked my RH (also Ceremony location) and Photographer/Videographer..I am SET on my date.
i called rabbi today and she left me a message saying that since its a jewish holiday, she cant marry us until after sun down! It is apparently Shavout, and it happends to fall on May 27th during 2012! WONDERFUL! now i have no idea what im suppose to do
I DO NOT WANT TO MOVE THE CEREMONY UNTIL AFTER SUNDOWN!
:( Any advice, more so does anyone know a rabbi that doesnt mind marrying on jewish holidays?!?
Thanks so much! Carly

Re: HELP!
Carly.... Let me ask my mom. She told me that she knew a rabbi that married someone in a church. I am thinking if he is willing to marry in a church he may be able to marry you on a jewish holiday!

Re: HELP!
Thanks Girls for all of your help! I emailed a recommended rabbi from this website, emailed my rh hoping he could help and posted on vendors helping brides so we shall see..
DEF thought that officiant would be the easiest part..this goes to show, if you dont have an officiant, do it right after you get your hall before you do anything else!!

Re: HELP!
Try posting on vendors helping brides, even if it doesn't apply to them if a pastor knows someone they'll write you and recommend. Try it! Good Luck!
We are getting married on a Friday during Lent... There's fish on the menu and veg, so we don't care, lol. But it's also the Friday before St. Patty's Day... We were happy it was NOT on that day!
Hope you find someone!

I've been told by a priest that if you have a celebration (like a wedding) on a Friday in Lent, you can have meat there you just have to give up meat a different day that week (ie thursday). Just FYI!

Re: HELP!
Hey! I just wanted to thank everyone soo much for all of your help. I love this site, because I love chatting with you girls and getting ideas about different things.... but I did not realize how HELPFUL it really would be when I was in a panic. Within minutes of posting, i received about 5 different rabbi recommendations and SO many encouraging words..thank you sooo much!
Update on situation: I called or emailed all of the rabbis that you girls sent...all of them can do it that Sunday since it is later on in the evening..the price does go up, but they will do it.
I called a rabbi that someone at work recommended, he too will do it.
I emailed Larkfield, and as always he was helpful and sent me a recommendation, who can also do it.
Made no sense to why this one rabbi was the only one who couldnt do it..today, i receive a message back from her, stating i got your message and 6pm is close enough to sunset that i would be honored to marry you! (I never spoke to her, my aunt works with her, the first time she left me a message she said, its a highly observed jewish holiday, i cant marry you before sun down nor will any other rabbi)..
I guess i pre-maturely freaked out. Thanks ladies for being here!
So im hoping to meet with her this weekend..if not, i apparently have many other recommendations!!!
Feel free to continue to sent the rabbi numbers or emails just in case this doesnt go as well as im hoping!!!
