I am in a bind , my mother is conservative jewish but my husband is agnostic and I am not practicing....we are giving my mom a reform ceremony because we know it means a lot to her...now she wants to walk down the isle with me and I really only want to walk down with my father...I just don't want to walk down the isle with someone on either side and the flowers...I just feel like it is too much....is this wrong of me?
Help please

Re: Help
I'm walking half way down with my mother and half way down with my father. Maybe you can do something like that.

Re: Help
It's hard because its your wedding, at first my mom was really upset that I wasn't having a priest and a rabbi, but i had to exolain that its my wedding and neither of us are religious so we sre hsving a justice of the peace. There are some things that you can give in on, but if you dont want to do it then speak your mind and explain these things to her. Don't let it stress you out though cause ultimately its your decision

Re: Help
My mom really wanted to do this as well. I told her that since I am their only daughter, it is my Dad's time to shine but at the reception we will have a special dance together. She was happy with that compromise.

My mom wanted to walk down with me but I always just wanted my dad so I told her that I'll have a father/daughter dance and a mother/daughter dance for the reception

Re: Help
I am ready to call off the wedding at this point, she has thrown everything she has ever done for me in my face, she didnt even care if I had a wedding in the first place...I wanted her to walk down the isle and meet us at the end but nothing is good enough unless it is her way...right now I am so hurt I don't even want to compromise...she just feels that since my dad never was a really great dad to me that I should have chosen her to walk me down the isle...but ultimately it is not her choice...she is not being reasonable right now and at the moment all planning is at a halt.

Just playing devil's advocate here & I promise I'm not intending to be rude here... but would it really kill you to walk down the aisle with both of your parents? That is such a small part of the wedding, that I think it's silly to put a halt on the wedding planning over/have drama with your Mother over.

Re: Help
It is just the fact of her being so pushy and emailing me all these things to make me feel guilty for what I want, she didn't even care if we had a ceremony...she had told us to elope...and now that we are having a ceremony she wants whatever she wants and when she doesn't get it she will push and push to get it...it's just not nice. I have decided to ask my father to walk down the isle with his 2nd daughter and son, because they are too shy to walk down themselves anyway and he won't care and walk with my mother alone. It is honestly not what I wanted but in the bigger picture it is only a minute and my eye will be on the prize anyway...my FH. I am going to let things between me and my mom cool down first before I tell her. I think the things she has done and emailed me are unfair and pushy. She has thrown things in my face since my sweet 16 and its just not nice. I want an apology and then I will tell her my decision.

Aww, I see what you are going through. It sounds like you just need to sit down and talk to your Mother and tell her what you're feeling. You still have lots of time to decide/change your decision on who walks you down the aisle. Good luck with everything!

I agree. Moms are sometimes very tough on us and feel that because they raised us they have say 100%. Both my Mom and Dad are walking me down the aisle... it's what I want but I know if I didn't my Mom would have an issue with it too. You have to do what you want, but is it such a big deal to give her that? Pick your battles. But also don't do anything that you are 100% against.
