Help. Advice on buying wedding dress online.

My girlfriend is getting married on July 2011. She is on a tight budget.

She bought a used dress online and its a mess. Its too short and cant be lengthened.

So we are looking for the dress she REALLY wanted online. I have seen it from $250 to $750. It should retail for about $800.

Yes, if its too good to be true it is. I get that.

But whats all your thoughts on buying online? Plus I figured if we pay with AMEX we are 100% covered. If they ship a $hitty dress we can always back charge it.

Thoughts?

i did a similar post a few months ago and the overwhelming consensus is not to buy online.
I have read reviews from a lot of the major sites you see for dresses and some are good, and some are bad. Anywhere from improper sizing, incorrect materials and poor bead work. They also say these companies dont respond once they ship you the orders so you cant get a person to complain to.
You would be protected with Amex which is a plus but if it is not the right dress you would still end up needing to find it and purchase it in store and then you worry about time constraints too.
I opted against it and just paid for it in store knowing i would be covered.

The stuff that I've seen at the really inexpensive prices has all been knockoffs and not the actual thing.

If the retail for her dream dress is $800 - I say she should try to go to a bridal boutique and negotiate a price. I was able to knock out a few hundred from my dress and make it affordable.
