I just called my salon about my hollow to hem measurement (since I'm only 5'3') and they said even though I have 2' to play with at the bottom (which considering my dress I would not want to do) they said they might be able to shorten it at the waist but I would have to pay an additional $200 for alterations (on top of the $200 I'm already paying) if they do the hollow to hem!!!
Now even though I feel like I'm getting hit with a penalty for being vertically challenged, is this normal??? Somehow I'm thinking $400 for alterations is crazy!! Especially when every BM dress I ever wore was altered length wise!!
Is there a good seamstress anyone can recommend if God forbid they try to stick me with this? I can't imagine a seamstress charging as much. And if I decide to get my alterations done elsewhere, they have to deduct the alterations fee from my bill, right?
TIA

Re: Help!! Alterations $$$ and a seamstress??
I did the hem to hollow measurement, and it took like 30 mins, because it was a new dress, and the top is scalloped. Anyways, after all that, my measurement came to 55 inches, which happed to be the size of the petite dress. So the measurement wasn't really needed, and we just ordered the petite. It saved me a bunch of money. I'm 5'1', but you could see what lengh the petite size of your dress comes in (if your dress has a petite size). They may differ in length, and you may be in luck. But I'm not sure.

She does alterations?? I only ask this because my parents already put a $700 deposit on my dress, so I can't exactly order it from elsewhere without putting them out of the cash!!! (Trust me, if I could order it elsewhere without doing this to them, I would!!)

Yes, she (Phyllis) definitely does alterations. I was initially going to get another dress somewhere else and contacted her. She will alter any dress, regardless of where it is bought.
